Default Need help with cutom grind

Hey all. Been doing a lot of research again for my new used 02 Z06. I am looking to pick a good custom grind for my car. I am hoping some of you cam experts could chime in. I drag maybe 5 or 6 times a year at the strip. More importantly I do open track days about 6 times a year. I plan on doing a cam, longtubes with no cats and electic cut outs for track duty. Otherwise I will be going through the stock Ti's. I plan on leaving the heads alone but will upgrade the valve train when I do the cam. What I am looking for is a cam that will be the best for all of these needs. I have looked into the ASA cam but figured why limit the lift that much if I am not running sactioned events. What would you guys think of a cam in the 240/240 ish duration on a lift from around .550 to .580 on a 110 lsa. Any ideas and imput would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert

You can run more lift than that but you will need to flycut with that duration. I would think it would be "peaky" for a track car.

I would recommend something in the mid to upper 220s for intake and lower 230s for exhaust, lift in the low 600s and an LSA between 111-112. Lots of shelf cams in this range and some really good custom cams too.

I agree with Patrick, plenty of off the shelf cams out there that will do what you want them to. Texas Speed 228, or maybe even 233/239 depending on what RPM range youre used to running.

I want to keep the lift below the 600's to keep spring life up. I dont mind changeing springs but they are going to see a lot of abuse. So maybe I will go with a custom grind in the 230's with a 580 lift.

Lift doesn't hurt springs as much as ramp intensity. For example, Comp's XFI lobes are more spring friendly than XE-R lobes even though a 224 XFI lobe is .609" and a 224 XE-R lobe is .581". You can't run 918s with XE-R lobes but you can with XFI's (in a pinch).

I can agree with what PG is recommending here(I think I even know the profile to), but would like to see the lift stay in the .576-.600range myself for stock heads. Whatever you choose, "smaller cams" done right, can produce/run with the big cam cars.
