Default Project Nova - The quest for 1000hp VS s480 l33 347

Finally getting around to doing my 70SS nova that my father and I pulled out of a creek bottom completely stripped when I was 8 years old. Car has a lot of history with me, I've had everything from a stock 350/th350 to a decent 362 with t56 and countless engines in between. I'll never get rid of it, and now it's time to show it some much needed love. I've done multiple swaps, including my turbo iroc, all were just kind of temporary test mules to try different combos out and piping/etc to see how it worked and if I liked it.

The car is tubbed, I can fit a 325 under it, has full Calvert suspension under it. Split leaf monos, spring sliders, caltracs, Viking d/a rear, mild work up front, tubular a arms.

drivetrain is a forged 347 eagle h beam rods, wiesco pistons, stock crank in an l33 block. Ed Curtis custom grind turbo cam, ported 243's, ls2 Intake, th400 with a bte billet brake, aluminum thru bolt 9" case, chromoly lightweight spool and lightened/R.E.M. Polished 3:50 gears.

20 gal fuel cell sumped, twin 044 Bosch pumps, 210# injectors, 30# base pressure

Spearco giant radiator, 3" pipe from turbo to intercooler, 4" from intercooler to TB, billet s480 clone turbo.
with an iron sbc, aluminum heads and a t56 the car weighed 2800#.

Ive got an exile boost controller, splurging on a Dakota Digital dash, with boost and fuel pressure in the dash.

Just getting started putting it all in, waiting on my machine work to be complete and then I can start putting it together for good. Test fitting my new intercooler now, probably overkill but for $200 I couldn't pass it up.

Picture of my dads 70ss nova, I specd out his swap and helped him do it, very very tame setup, 60e etc and runs 11's up here in 3500 d/a with a real small Tick cam. Between my dad and I we have 14 novas, 68 firebird, 79 t/a, 78 t/a, two ws6 4th gens, etc. pick the stuff up whenever it's cheap, getting hard to find.

That's awesome, I like builds like this!

Lot of Nova's!!!
One of my first cars was a 68 Firebird 400 4 speed. It had 40,000 miles on it and I bought it for $450.00. It was one of those cases where the owner never did anything with it when he got back from Vietnam, and he decided to sell it. Hang on to your's, you'll regret it if you sell it like I did. Bob

Thanks! I bet you miss it, that's a hard to find piece now days! I would much rather prefer that over a first gen camaro. I'll live in a cardboard box on the side of the hwy before I get rid of this faithful ol turd. Lol

parts started showing up! The amount of bends and pipe you get in this speedway kit is crazy for $140

here you go! Comes with 4 45's, 4 90's, 4 u's, and 4 48" straights. Costs $140 shipped on eBay. It's enough to build 2-3 kits!

Sku # 91013822

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to fall short if my goal, but I'll be happy with 800whp. I've been trying to mount this thing all evening, finding a suitable location is proving very difficult

Great project, In for progress…

I went with a similar piping kit. If you plan to weld on it any, that powder coated stuff is a bastard to clean off the pipe! Wish I had went with a non-coated kit for my needs.

Well don't set your standards too high, I'm shooting for a simple and effective setup, I won't be building beautiful stainless hot sides, shaving the firewall or anything too fancy.

I do have an aluminum tig, I have not been having much luck getting it to work correctly. I'm not sure if it's me or what I have the machinecsetting on.

I put In an order for a boost/pulse leash combo with billet map and dual line kit, and my Dakota Digital dash today. Pretty much done spending money for now lol.
