Default Anyone run a single 3” from Y out the rear on a 4th gen?

I have bbk long tubes with bbk 2.5” y pipe which merges up to 3” if i recall, no cats.
Then its all stock out the rear with stock muffler and tips on my SS.
Anyone running just a single 3” exhaust out to the rear?
It seems this may be the cheapest exhaust to run over all and flow well.
Now to find a 3” ID muffler that isn’t loud but flows well.
I’m being a cheap *** i know.
Summit sells a single 3” for a 4th gen And a 2 piece 3” to make a kit work up to the muffler. Its not complete but do able and i don’t need stainless on my setup.
I don’t really want a dual dual setup or a single into dual exit setup.
Mufflex is $600 but is 3.5”
So what do you all think?
Car is stock, it may get a small cam, 243 heads, ls6 or fast 90 intake.

Not a bad decision. You could definitely do it cheaply and camaros look great without tips. Thing is make sure you have mandrel bends and not crush bent. Single 3 inch is really the minimum size i would run. Crush bent will make it smaller than 3. Just copy the mufflex system and get a nice muffler.

So are you talking about running it all the way out to the rear into a single tailpipe?

The kit they have is mandrel bent up to the muffler it looks like.
I didn’t see a mandrel pipe from the muffler out to the rear of the car but that’s not hard to make with a mandrel bent 3” - 90* pipe.

HCI2000 - Yeah, from the Y, over the axel and exit with one 3” pipe, either out the rear or right before the rear bumper so not to see it as much.

A single exhaust pipe out the bumper will look like a v6. Just dump it the same way mufflex does.

I was thinking about it and saw the way mufflex dumps down at an angle which does look better

That dumped Mufflex should look much better than having a single tip out the rear

That’s what I’ll do then if I make one, dump it like a mufflex.
Now what muffler is best bang for the buck or not loud. I want a straight through muffler

I have a similar set-up.
I think I bought an over the axle 3 inch pipe for an 3rd gen.

I have a hooker maxflow single inlet offset single out. It's quiet.
But usually I have my cut-out open...

Is that maxflow loud when you have it wide open?

I’m running turndown right off the ypipe ,I wouldn’t recommend it but I wanted it to be as least restrictive and as lightweight as possible .. sounds good at idle but it’s insanely loud at wot

Just dump it before the axle if your going without a muffler.

Assloads of people have ran single 3" exhaust either to a dump or to a single muffler out the back.

Texas speed and speed engineering make header back exhausts for $500

I gotta use a muffler though, with piping out to the back or dumped before or around the rear bumper, as it’s a daily so I know I won’t like a straight pipe setup or a setup dumped under the car, even if it makes a difference in power. I used to have my 66 nova with dual 3” flows dumped under the car and even though it was fast, the exhaust sound would get annoying.
Plus a car that isn’t fast but has a very loud sounding exhaust isn’t idea in my life right now.
I don’t have much fast parts on the 00 camaro. I have my 69 camaro and 78 Malibu to make a lot faster.

$500 isn’t bad for a cat back setup they sell, but then I might as well get the dual setup from speed engineering for around that price, but with the headers I have don’t know if the dual will match up correctly and then that may be more money to make it work, plus the relocation bar kit needed. The cheapest is the slp loudmouth and I think that is way too loud for me.

A 3” setup with a 3” straight through muffler, if I can make it with what they currently sell and do it all myself, may be around $250, maybe $300 tops if I did my research correctly. It’s not stainless and I can careless about stainless exhaust as that adds to the price.

There’s also an slp two out the left setup for sell not to far from me, it would need the piping from y pipe to the over the axel pipe. It may cost me the same amount of money more or less.

A dump doesn't have to be loud, you just need a muffler. I put this on my 5.3 truck.....

Amazon Amazon

.....a couple of feet of straight pipe after the Y, then this muffler, then a dump. It sounds pretty good. Not very loud which is good for me on my daily. I have cats though, that makes a huge difference.

As said above, use a Hooker Maxflow 3" offset. You can get Walker/Dynomax I-pipe and OTA pipe at Summit. Then all you have to do is have an exhaust shop fab a turn-down exhaust pipe off the muffler.

I have this set up on both my Formulas and it's quiet around town and speaks up when you get on it. This is also one of the lightest setups around.

Revgto that’s the exact route I was going to go with on the piping, by using the dynomax two pieces of pipe up to the muffler but I still want to turn it one more time out towards the rear bumper. May make it quieter inside exiting out the rear bumper area.

I was then undecided on a muffler, I did want a straight through design muffler like Magnaflow, until it was posted about using the hooker maxflow. I may get the hooker now.

Some states require the tailpipe to be past the body in order to pass inspection, I know PA is that way.

Dumped will look horrible on a TA but fine on a Camaro.
