Default We have a new small but useful product for you engine builders!

Reusable Front Oil Galley Plug
Unlike the factory plug, this Billet Front Oil Galley Plug uses a O ring to create the seal and is reusable. It is also easy to remove and install unlike the factory plug. 1/4-20 threaded hole that you can use for easy removal. This Billet plug is great for the racers that tear their engines down for inspections.
Fits GM Gen III & IV LS Engines LS1-2-3-6-LQ4-LQ9-4.8L-5.3L-6.0L-6.2L & More!

I love this. I knock out the press-in freeze plug style plug on every build I do, to clean the main gallery. I’ll buy this to ensure a total leak proof setup, with high pressure pumps. O-ring will always seal better than the press in plug.
It would be easier to remove I feel, if you threaded a hole in the center of it, like your barbell you sell.

Thanks for the good word Che70velle! We were threading the first prototypes but found it wasn't necessary and just added to the cost. The reason the threads aren't necessary is because the oil pressure pushes the plug against the timing cover leaving about a .020" gap between the block and the flange on the plug so you can get a little screw driver in and pop it out easily.

I want to give a shout out to Shawn at Water Thunder for being a major player on the little project! Thanks Shawn!

Thank you
Christian

I would actually be willing to pay a few dollars more if it means I don’t have to worry about marring the machined gasket surface on the block with a screwdriver.

Totally agree with this. It would pop out pretty easily after fresh install, but I have to wonder if after a season is on the engine with many heat cycles, would it pop out easily, or would the oring try to stick.
I’d pay a few dollars extra as well for the threaded hole.

Considering that removal of the barbell from my LS2 required drilling a hole in it and pulling it out with a sheetmetal screw and pliers (and the fact that the oring left a permanent mark from the rubber on the galley), I don’t think it will come out easy after running for a while. This is a BIG reason why I would want threads. Especially since plastic tools may not be enough to remove a stuck plug. I would just hate to mar a sealing surface with a screwdriver.

There are no old ones to take out to test that, but you can pull the plug on the side of the block and push from the rear also to remove it.

But because we like to listen to all your input on what you would like to see in our products we will be tapping them from now on.
Thanks for the input!

Any idea when they will be available with a tapped hole? I would like to get one for my rebuild.

After you remove your SacCityCorvette bar bell from the back of the block (using the threads that are already there), just stick a LONG rod through the oil gallery and push it out like you would the factory cup plug.

That’s how I knock out the Oem plugs. It’s not impossible, but sometimes hard to do on the stand. These trick new parts are spoiling us.

I know this. But a BIG reason why one would buy a part like this in the first place would be to avoid having to do such things. Even Sac City Corvette said this in their initial post (which is also probably why they had a change of heart). If you just wanted to do the hammer and rod thing, you would go OEM. Also, a piece you can easily pop out is advantageous if (for any reason) you wanted to pop out the plug with the motor in the car.

Don't get me wrong, I'd buy one in a heartbeat, with or without a threaded hole, if my engine wasn't already installed in my car.

If for any reason my engine comes out and I'm taking the covers off, one of these WILL be going back in.
