Default Need new street only tires for 2002 TA

I blew out my left driver's side tire today luckily while driving in a 30 mph limit area and not when I was doing higher speeds 5 minutes prior. I dragged the rim on pavement for about 50-75 feet to pull off to the shoulder safely. I just bought my T/A about a month ago and want to replace all 4 tires as they are down to less than 4/32. I have no idea where to start but here is my criteria and budget:
  • 100% street driven and only in dry conditions and Summer weather in Minnesota (lowest temp will be driven at around 40-50 degrees F in the fall before storing for the winter). I also will only put around 3k miles on the car each year if I'm lucky but would still like some longevity in the tire.
  • The car is near stock power as of now with a lid/catback, but I plan on doing long tubes/cam/tune next Summer for around 400rwhp.
  • I currently have $1200 to spend, but would like lighter than stock rims if possible but realize this is a stretch and can keep the stock ones for now. If only spending on tires, I would like to keep the price at around $150-175 max a tire.
  • The left driver's side is currently sitting on the spare tire. How long can it sit before any suspension related issues come about or do I not need to worry about that? This isn't my daily driver so it can site for a while if that's ok to do.
  • I currently have the stock 245 width tires on 16 inch rims. I have no idea what size I should go with for a only street driven car but I'm assuming something wider than 245.
I appreciate any advice and can clarify more if anyone needs me too.

Are you considering drag radials at all?

I honestly thought those were only for the drag strip but just read that some can be utilized on the street. Honestly, as long as I can get on the freeway still and they won't blow up if I accidentally run over a pothole around these crap roads I would consider them.

Would I be screwed if it rained while I was out one day and had to get home on those?

Nope there are some drag radials that do decent in the rain and will last a decent while. They won't be your stickiest ones, but they will grip better than a pure street tire. The Nitto 555R and Toyo Proxes TQ come to mind. I've used both myself

I'm in Elko New Market right behind the track. I see you're in WBL. Are there any good car clubs locally?

Would these work on a 285/40/17 tire? They would be good throwaways for now and allow me to run a wider tire than the stock 16x8.

Edit: removed post because not sure if I can link a non vendor here, but they are 17x9 AR Torque Thrust Ms, backspacing 6.75 in, offset 45mm.

I am pretty happy with Nitto NT05s (not R) on my car.

I think I know what I'm going to go with now thanks for the replies. I do need to know if it's bad if I let the car sit in the garage for a few months with the spare on while I wait for new tires and rims. Would it be better to put the rear on jackstands or can I just leave it be? The current tires are trash but I'm worried about suspension issues happening.

What would you pay for these considering the tires are in decent shape?

Thinking about just picking these up for now to drive around on. I didn't want to cut into my H/C budget for next Summer too much if possible.

Just put Nitto 555 Extreme model tires all around. (NOT the Nitto drag radials).

They are cheap and AWESOME dry/wet tires. And with 400 RWHP they will hook great when you run it hard. I've been using them for years as my daily driver tires. Can't get much better.

Probably $700 for all 4 tires.......but its been about 3 years since I've bought this set of 4...thats how long they last. Easy 15,000 miles.......

.

Thanks. Will consider this when I run a wider rim but probably going to stick with the stock 16x8 for now with new meat.
