Default Teach me the ways sensei! 5.3 Turbo Build 240SX

Well....where do i start?

First i would like to thank anyone who puts their positive input into the build, i know some might say oh you can search and search which i have done but i feel everyone's setup is to their own? if you understand what i am speaking of. A little bit of background information.

I have a S13 240sx with a 5.3 in it already i was running it N/A for a little and now the turbo bug has started to itch. it was a junkyard 5.3( please don't hate its a budget build) with all LS6 Accessories ( intake manifold, DBC throttle body , injectors ) Ls1/truck MAP. a pair of ISR long tube headers ( a company that makes parts for 240sx and for the swap) i bought a budget cam, BTR NSR 224/230 duration @ .50 112+3 .500" lift ( no springs required ) cam for a little chop (love it cant lie). Did a melling oe oil pump new timing chain and gear/sprocket. My goals that i would be happy with would be 600RWHP. Now comes what i guess you can call a rebuild/parts needed??

i would like to throw a turbo kit on it. and keep it a little budget but to make sure its can hold and such. this is the list i have made of things to buy and if you guys can tell me or suggest different parts or if i am going over board on some parts.
  • the turbo is going to be a on3 78/75 its a good price turbo and for now it isn't bad, down the road i could always change it up.
  • going to be using truck manifolds flipped forward just because i like the fact its keep the spark plug changes easy and they are free? ( already have them ) going to weld some 2.75 Vbands i had laying around. and create the cross over pipe and all that fun stuff!
  • i was told i have to run 2 wastegates and then some others say i can get away with 1? im not sure on that part and would like to hear what you guys think?
  • Bov...well any BOV just not gonna go a cheap ebay would most likely go Tial BOV and Wastegate to be honest.
  • injectors i was looking into Snake Eater Performance and they are good pricing and have had 2 friends run those injectors with no problem. reason i dont want to "decap" the ls6 injectors is, i just dont really trust that and would rather have brand new injectors and knowing what they flow at. was thinking 1500cc but a friend told me its overkill that 1000cc would be enough. im not planning on running e85, just want to stay on pump gas 93 oct.
  • Fuel Rail. some say to go aftermarket some say stock is more than enough? not sure on this one.
  • intercooler would be treadstone performance since they are not too far from me.
  • Fuel pump(s) i was thinking of throwing dual 450s, now same problem with the injectors. some say that dual 450 is overkill that i can run it on 1 450 fuel pump.
  • Cam Wise, Could i be able to keep mine or i was thinking of grabbing the Sloppy Mechanic Stage 2 Cam?
  • Oil Pump, should i upgrade to a high volume/high pressure or would the mellings i already have on the engine be enough?
  • i was thinking of doing either LS6 Springs or Pac 1218s
  • Oil Feed, i saw i can take off the oil pressure/low oil sending unit that is on the back of the block near the top and put a m16x1.5 to 4an fitting? would that be good? and for return ill just tape the oil pan which is a canton oil pan.
off the top of my head that is all i can think of. any input would be appreciated sorry if i wrote too much.

I would put a set of springs in it anyways for how cheap they are even though not required with the cam. Either you mention is fine.

1 wastegate is fine. Get a good wastegate and can cheap out on a BOV.

Siemens 60# or 80lb injectors would be plenty for your 600whp goals.

stock fuel rail is fine.

a single 450 pump will handle 600whp.

do not go with a high volume/pressure pump, too many people have had problems.

Your cam will work ok for a turbo setup.

oil feed will work as you stated.

Thumbs up

yeah i started doing a bit research and decided to go with a 7875 on3 just because i dislike how the VS racing one looks.

injectors i think im just gonna run 1000cc in case in the future i decided to go e85 or some other upgrades.
yeah i was looking at the pacs and also a company called engine pro nitro black?

thank you for youre answer btw!!!

Whatever injectors you get make sure you get enough injector data on them to tune them properly. The Siemens are well known and have great injector data available to tune it so it drives like stock.

You can order the snake eater injectors straight from their Chinese supplier for about half the cost, but you'll need to have them flow tested.

Seems hard to believe they're that cheap. Usually the set is about 250.

Those are chinese knockoffs. They are garbage.

Buy from a reputable vendor to be sure. If your interested in a set of dynamically flow matched 80lbers for $440 shipped brand new let me know. Keep in mind the 80lb Siemends injectors flow more like 93lb which is almost 1000cc, at LS factory fuel pressure (58psi)

So update.

I received my Treadstone intercooler. a simple TR1045 its a 10x22x4.5 intercooler with the end tanks and all. its really great quality im really happy with it.

Second i started to sand blast the truck manifold to find out one had a long crack in it =/ owells already picked up another one! so we are going to get to sandblasting and welding those 2.75 vbands on it.

Ordered my 7875 from on3 Performance and also order my "sloppy stg2" cam from amazon! projects is moving along.

next order is going to be some gaskets and pac 1218s.
