Description:

I have a 1998 Z28 Camaro for sale. Its a time capsule. Almost mint condition. Black with grey leather interior M6. Fully built. Most of the work was done by Speed Inc. up by Chicago. I bought this car and put a ton of parts and work in it and then I became disabled. I can no longer work on it and I have a hard time getting in and out of it. I pretty much need help to get out of it. In is no problem. I've been disabled for 10 years and only drove it 2 years after I bought it. Most of its time has been in storage. My brother has taken it out for me once a month to keep everything in check. No winters. Car has (according to Speed Inc.) 470 RWHP and 400 RWTQ. Car has never seen rain and not a spot of rust. No scratches on outside, just one under the hatch which you cant see when hatch is closed. Outside is a 9.5 and inside is 9.9. Zero cracks in dash. I took really good care of it and spared no expense. It was my baby. Only issues is 1/8 tear in drivers seat from my jean rivet, and run on the hood paint from where previous owner painted it in his garage. Also, the low coolant sensor needs changed. That just popped up 6 months ago. I read its common. AC is all there but I took off the belt because the compressor was leaking fluid and it was being strung into my engine bay.  I have the t-top shades, car cover, and original dealer booklet from launch. Please feel free to ask questions.
Here are the parts in no particular order installed by me and Speed Inc.

Posted more pics. Someone pmd me asking when motor was rebuilt. It was rebuilt in 2011. I bought it as soon as came out of Speed Inc. Mileage was around 55k and it's at 58k. That's how many miles It was driven since then. No track time when I owned it. Too afraid to scratch it. Mostly a show car.

also, it has 160 thermostat, silicone hoses, strut brace.

Can you post pic of dyno sheet ? Hood was painted by owner ? Did own a paint shop ? Spared no expense but Ac does not work ? check engine light on ? Ripped seat ? Will these issues be addressed before sale ?

Agree. No AC is an issue for most of the Country. So all AC components are currently in place? Dyno sheets? Date code on the Tires? Are the original rims put away somewhere or stuck with current black ones?

I bet the car rips and I’d love to have it for the right price. But a deeper dive into the pictures show grass on front and back carpet. The Drivers door sill looks like it’s seen rain too. Representation is everything for a near mint description.

It has not seen rain since I owned it. Don't believe, look away then. My brother used a power washer to wash it and didn't detail completely. Anybody that actually details their cars knows water gets on the kick board when washing even with a hose. Grass, are you kidding me? Yes, ac is all there. Compressor leaks. So I'll knock off $200 for it being dirty lol. No Dyno sheet. It was only dynoed when they rebuilt the motor in 2011. They told me the results over the phone. I never really cared. I knew it had 470rwhp and that's it. I'm not a racer. I might do a stoplight run but that's it. I just didn't think it would be something I needed. I told you the low coolant sensor is bad. Not check engine light. They're like what, $30? I'll knock off another $100 just to be fair. The hood does have a flaw in the paint. It's not easy to see but under fluorescents it's noticeable. In sunlight you can't really see it. I think the hood pics say the rest. As far as date codes on tires the car is 50 miles away from me. I will try and get those when I go down there again.

Guys, I can't bend over. I can't stand longer than than 15 -20 minutes. I'm disabled. I can't detail it properly and fix **** anymore. The car is costing me $200 a month just to store it. I can't justify it anymore.

Since the ac doesn't work and the grass on carpet and water spots on kickboard, I'll drop it to $16,000. Will that cover all your concerns?

WOW... Harsh buyers! I don't think its in all that bad of shape for the price of the build. The only thing I noticed is the license plate sticker from 10 years ago. I own a black 2012 Tahoe and my door jams - same!

Good luck with the sale. If I had a place to put it, I'd buy it. My Zs in the way though.

I've been disabled since 2015. After I couldn't take care of it I just took it out every month or so, but no winters. After I became unable get in and out of it is when my brother started watching after it (about 1 year ago) But only driving to keep everything lubed and running. The low coolant sensor just came on not too long ago. The plates are outdated too. It's insured though with full coverage. Has been since I bought it. I took my chances with the sticker. Never once got nailed lol....

Interested in the car but certain statements dont add up or should be deleted . 470 rwhp is a Max Effort ls1 this is not a Max effort setup. No expense spared with issues do not go together. AC to fix properly would be in the $1200-1500 range.

man some of you guys are ridiculous, you expect it to be a brand new car off the showroom floor? It's a 25 year old car, gimme a break, 16k isnt that bad of a price for it if you're looking for a clean modified 4th gen. It's like everyone wants a perfect car and doesn't want to put an ounce of effort into making it better. I think the biggest issue if you want to call it an issue is the need for an AC compressor, but i don't see it being $1500 for one. Speed inc is kinda notorious for inflating dyno numbers..after 20+ years of modifying LS1s and seeing what it takes to make power, it's safe to assume this combination is probably good for 420-430 to the wheels..the 9" robs a bit of power. Eitherway, car looks clean and the price doesn't seem to far out of line.

I've done some cleaning up in this thread, one post was just over the top with the insults so it's gone.

I think the issue here is that some folks are misled by comments like "time capsule" and "almost mint". These terms are, unfortunately, often overused/misused and have subjective meanings depending on one's experience in the automotive hobby - this creates a disconnect which can lead to misunderstandings like the above.

I agree that this is certainly not a #1 car, but it looks like a very nice car in very good condition and a fair deal for the price. It appears that it could present as a solid #2 car with some proper detailing and a few repairs. There are still some #1 (or potential #1) condition LS1 4th gens left on the market if that's what someone is looking for, but I don't think you'll find them for <$16k in the current market.

Fire sale! First 12k cash takes it. Anyone that has half a brain knows my car is worth it. I lowered it from 16k to 12k. Anyone looking for this year and options would be fool to pass up this car for 12k. No joke, 12k and she's yours. I won't take 1$ less and I'll keep it for less than 12. A guy offered me $8500 lol.....I can't even..

1 year on here? Do you have it on Marketplace? Maybe try an EBay listing?

@Ronerik IMHO, this is a HELLUVA good deal. I have a built LS7 engined C5, so I can't get another car now, especially at my age. If I was in my 40s I'd be all over this. Guys, you'd have a Helluva time building the motor today for $12,000. Car is basically nearly free. Problem for the OP is many of todays younger generation doesn't want deals, they want steals. Yeah, and I want a new C8 Zora......

I imagine it'll be gone pretty quick at this price. It's definitely not a time capsule by any means, WAY too many modifications for that, but it should be very desirable to someone looking for a weekend toy with plenty of power for a great price. I'm an auto guy, but most folks want the manual so that's a positive on the open market. Some stock/Whistler headlights would be a massive improvement, but it's otherwise a nice looking car with a solid build. Good value here.

Also, for anyone who is as concerned about this as me, you won't have to worry about the roof bubbling with this one - the 01/98 build date puts it well into the "safe" zone.

Pm's have been answered. Sorry about the delay. And I really appreciate the moral boost that someone sees the value in it. I have had several requesting videos. I will get one but after Tuesday. It's too hot to mess with it now. Temp drop to high of 78f. It's 100f heat index today and tomorrow. Super humid. I'm working on it. The car is 45 miles away so I can't exactly go across town. So please, be patient with me.
