Default Tires for 98 Z28: General GMAX vs GForce Comp2?

Finally time to get new tires for my 98 Camaro Z28 > I'm running P245/50ZR-16 Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval / Indy 500, but it seems like they're no longer made in that size.

There two seem like the best options, any suggestions or other recommendations?

General GMAX RS245 /50 R16 97W SL BSW
G-Force Comp 2 A/S Plus245 /50 R16 97W SL BSW

Both are similar price, though the General are all performance summer tires, where the G-Force are all-season. I never drive it in the winter or rain, so seems like General is a better choice? I recall the G-Force perhaps being more popular though, I haven't really been following for a while

I did the same thing last spring with 275/4017s. I wanted an all-season tire so the only choices were the two you mentioned and michelin's which I didn't want to spend for. Several people on different forums said we BFGs are noisy. Of course that subjective and I don't have first-hand knowledge. They do have a better looking more aggressive tread than the GMAX. I ended up going with the gmax and it was a substantial difference over my 10-year-old BFGs. Hope this helps.

I'm running Kumho's on 18s and I don't hate them. They aren't noisy at all. I also have them on my Flex and the ride is great.

Thanks, I was leaning more towards the gmax, I think that's the way I'll go. I definitely put off changing them too long

I did have Kumho ECSTA Supra 712's before the firehawks.

Not to get off topic but I remember you creating the mp3 mod which I use 10 years ago. Thank you.

LEAN the other way. I've had the BFG G-Force on my Trans Am for many years. Zero road noise, excellent traction in both dry and wet. They took us safely on a 6,000+ miles Rte 66 trip a few years back when I had 16" rims and I have a new set on my new 17" rims. They are nearly every equal to the high end Michelin Pilot Sports or Goodyear Exhilarate which cost that 'top of the line' $$$. MADE IN USA too.

2021 Road trip in all weather conditions

Super tread design

Tens of thousands of miles on the BFG G-Force over the years.

I might be showing my age here, I would never install a firestone tire on my vehicle, back in the mid 70's there was a big lawsuit against firestone for defective tires (I believe they were wide ovals). I have always purchased Michelin Pilot Sport for Sara (2001 Z28) and have had very good luck with them. Sara is a garage queen, and I change her tires every 9 to 10 years when I visually see "crazing" on the sidewall of the tire.

I went with the BFG's comp 2's on my 02 WS6 . I like them. Some say they wear out fast, but I dont care. I'll probably replace them from age not wear.

Here is my take. over the past 40 years, I have tried every tire. FWD, AWD, RWD. trying every tire from Khumo, Michelin, Conti, Yokohama, Sumitomo, Bridgstone, Firestone, Goodyear, Cooper, Hak, Nitto, etc.I am switching everything to the BFG Comp 2's. Went into a panic 2 years ago when I could not get them for the daily and settled on Bridgestones

the BFG Comp 2 wear better than other performance tires and perform better in the dry and wet. No longer live in snow, so I cant help there (plus I always ran winter only tires). with my driving style of binary throttle, brake, and steering, I get about 30,000 miles of aggressive driving out of them in 70/30 City/Hiway mix and about 40,000 miles in 35/65 mix

wife loves them vs the tires that come on all the new vehicles too as they are quieter and give her more confidence in the corners

On my Silverado the Firestone AT was the longest wearing truck tire I've ever owned.

I just put a set of Goodyear Eagle F1's on my car. I took it on two trips this week and I really like the way they handle. They are quiet and hold the road very well.

That's my situation too. Even after many road trips, it's usually an age thing for me as well. I am overly sensitive about that but I like fresh rubber with over 50% tread at all times. Not only for my sake but for my wife.
When I ended up in the hospital last summer, my wife had to handle the 'twisties' and mountain terrain to get to me a few times. Peace of mind knowing I had the best rubber on the car and tires would NOT be an issue, no matter which car she took. It was 1.5 hours each way.

I'm partial and biased toward Goodyear as well but when Goodyear stopped making them for my old 16" wheels on the T/A, I had to switch to the BFG and no problems at all. I have been ultra impressed.
I do have the high end Goodyear Exhilarate on both my GT and R/T though. Every equal to the Michelin PS and the same price too. Yeah, they are pricey but I can't help it as I rode on Goodyear rubber for over 500k miles during my law enforcement career. That was the only tire my department ever used. I'm sure they received great 'bulk' deals but never were there failures and the times spent over 100 mph were far too many when I was in traffic enforcement for a few years. I always made it home. An interesting side note is the tires were replaced every 6 months for pursuit vehicles no matter how many miles. I always liked that.
I like to keep my stickers and here are my 3 latest.

I like the Michelin and BFG tires. A buddy of mine runs those Michelin PS tires on his 02 Saleen. He really likes them. Goodyear still makes a good tire. I had really bad luck with separation on the LS2 tires and noise on the SRA tires. Ultimately as they were on a Silverado and a Ram, I went with Nitto off-road tires on the Silverado and Toyo off-road tires on my ram.

^^^ I really am not in touch with truck related tires but certainly agree with your friend's Michelin choice on his Saleen. I had those on my prior 2007 Mustang GT/CS and they were outstanding. That set had over 40,000 mostly highway miles on them, which for me was insane. Excellent wear and near flawless in all weather conditions.

He babies it. Has since it was new. The truck tires had lots of issues. So far and I just put the F1's on I like them. I went through some hills and windy roads on Saturday heading to a car show, and the rode great and handled great.
