Default Catch Can: 2 Port sealed vs 3 Port- vented

A Quart should be enough Volume.
Solder in 2 ports, one each to Intake manifold, PCV valve.
Should I use a Push-In vent/ filter on top ?
2 port sealed vs 3 Port VENTED can:
What are advantages to either type ?
..
......... The CAN will, of course mount upside DOWN, the screw cap will act as a DRAIN port......

.

1/2 " port to rocker cover
3/8" port to manifold, with inline checkvalve

SHould I put a Third port on for a breather filter ?
I have one breather/Filter on the passenger side rocker cover hose, and have blocked the Throttle body hose barb.

On my turbo ls motors I tend to run a big hose from each valve cover to a vented can. By big I mean -8 to -10 which is 1/2” to 5/8”. Heater hose is fine.
currently my wagon just has a vented oil fill cap but it’s a thrown together no prep car at the moment.
on my na 468 ls7 i used a pcv style can from Mighty Mouse and was very happy with it.
on my hhr ss lnf i used an eBay shitty catch can to make a sealed system that replicates the stock pcv but pulls all the oil and **** out before going in the intake.
This is my preferred approach but not always possible. You want one inlet between the air filter and turbo inlet and the can needs to be designed to separate ‘stuff’ as effectively as possible then the can should go out to each valve cover.
if you’re feeling froggy run the vacuum source to the intake manifold instead of behind the air filter, but you need a pcv type valve.
lots of ways to do it and many work just as well as any others but jb weld is rarely part of the equation.

Did you huff the entire can before you came up with this genius idea?

Let me guess, you came from the Honda forums??

If you want to do i right get an air oil seperator like this: https://www.radiumauto.com/Universal...OS-R-P890.aspx

you wont have to ever drain it, and radiator fluid preheats the can so there is no moisture build up.

Your link has aids.
The STIHL shop down the street was giving away quart steel cans, rated to contain volatile hydrocarbons in transit. the copper pipe is free drops from plumbing truck. 12 cents worth of solder and 20 minutes is cheap enough..
I LIKE to drain my catch can(s), expect an ounce or two at normal oil change interval.

I just use a sealed 2 port system. Single 3/4" hose out of driver side valve cover to sealed catch can, single 3/4" hose to just behind air filter/in front of my turbo Pass valve cover capped. Works great.
I tried a vented setup and my oil got dirty really fast and my girlfriend wouldn't ride in the car anymore because she got headaches from the fumes. Not for me. Switched to sealed system and problems gone.

Quick Reply: Catch Can: 2 Port sealed vs 3 Port- vented
