It can be done.
Its all about a total set-up.
Its all about the clutch.
You need a slipper type if racing or for the street a organic that has lots of give.
With a hard hitting ceramic disc you take the chance of braking your tranny or rear-end if not you will blow the tires off.
Also, a good Drag slick with a large side wall will help (15" rim and 28" tall tire)

my car runs in the 9's very consistantly. but i havent ran it out the back door in well over a yr. i did recently go 6.18@114 in the 1/8th about a month ago. on my best pass (9.86@141) my 1/8th was a 6.36@108, so i think when i get back it will run decent :-) combo in sig. car weighs 3740 without me in it. im 160lbs.

I think the real trick is to run in the 9's and be able to street drive it in a M6 car.

Agreed^^ mine has been my daily driver since ive owned it til a couple months ago. Thats why its so heavy. Still has every thing it left gm with plus extra sound deadening and a dvd/ stereo system. Its loaded. Now that i dont drive it everyday i could yank a few hundred lbs out of it but im too much of a sissy to loose my ac and power steering or it rattle and drone. So itll prob stay that way. Like mentioned above though fine line between spin and go. But i get about 15k miles on a clutch so its liveable.

We drove my buddy's stock bottom end 346 one hour to the track, aired the tires down 5 psi and ran a 9@138+ and drove it home on an entry level 25", 255 drag radial.

Care to share any more info about the setup -- I presume it's either FI or a big hit of N2O.

With a slipper clutch. I doubt the car drove to the track and back with the same clutch setting that it ran 9's in.

I hear ya.
All adjustable clutches are not the same, though. Some you can drive around, dyno, and run on the drag strip with minimal changes and others you need to make radical changes between street and strip.
I can tell you that we didn't go under the car that day because we had no tools or jack but he knows how to tune those clutches.

very nice times ... I take it both the 660 and the 1320 times were on the bottle. I am hoping for high 6's/high 10's this year when mine is done.

I assume you're talking about robZ?

If so OP just do a search on robZ and you will find allot of good info to help you reach your goals. He was in GMHTP with this car, very impressive ride!

No doubt, that car is awesome.. just letting them know that it isn't as simple a combination as it was being lead on to be.

Not very many people do it, but with the right driveline, suspension, and engine components it can be done!. Good luck with your project...

I'm confused as to why the manual trans guys are having a hard time getting into the 9's. Is it because of the shear weight of F-body cars? Is it because the gearing in the M6 is so short?

I run 10.3 @ 134 with a 5 speed. However, my car is nothing like anyone has here. It is a turbo 3 liter V6 at 22psi on a 75mm turbo. Had I turned up the boost another 3 psi or aired the slicks down to 10psi instead of 15psi, or BOTH I could have gone 9's easy. But I spun a rod bearing...

Anyways, to me it doesn't seem like 9's out of an M6 should be that hard. What gear are you guys crossing the finish line in, 4th or 5th? I am curious to know because I plan on running a T56 with turbo Lq4 next year. My rear gear is 3.73:1 though with a 26" tire.

youre going to need more then a 26" tire with a 3.73 gear. unless you plan on trapping 125 mph or revving the ever loving **** out of it.

You should always be trapping at a 1:1 transmission gear ratio ... for the T56 that is 4th gear. Both 5th and 6th are overdrive gears.
