Most just go with a Bickle or Denny's nitrous ready so there are no worries about ever breaking it.

We offer mild steel 3" nontwist tube driveshaft good for 1000hp and chrome moly in 3" good for 1400hp. I've ran a mild steel shaft in my car for the past 4 years running high 8's in a 3300lb chassis.

Ran an alum DS through last year - last year's best: 9.16 at 148+. First pass out this year, bumped up the launch a little with the new 9", took out the u-joint. I now run a 3.5" steel. No problem.

I've ran a PST carbon fiber shaft for about 6 years, no problems. 3200lbs, hundreds of 9 sec passes and several 8 sec ones. Acts like a harmonic balancer for the entire drivetrain, the car was noticeably smoother going down the track. The best part, if it ever does break the worst it should do is fray into fiber strands and knock some paint off.

I had one, it broke on the third launch with an a4. It was supposed to be good for 1200hp. I have a cam, and a little nitrous so Im no where close to 1200hp.

I love my aluminum drive shaft, Much lighter then than chromoly. KP used one for a while until it started cracking at the welds. I think I should be fine with it for a while.

Aluminum / ceramic metal matrix from Dynotech...stronger than an aluminum, but 1/2-way between cost of it and a carbon fiber, but you don't have to worry about the glue joints going away. Had one in a 800 hp four-speed '69 Camaro with no issues, and one is holding up to footbrake and transbrake 1.2x - 1.3x launches in the Firebird. Take care. Dave

There are all kinds of different aluminum driveshafts, the 3.5" I had was supposedly made by inland empire or something like that. It never failed but the weld on one yoke was cracked about 1/2 way around. May have lasted 10 seconds, may have lasted 10 years. The 3.5" CM strange driveshaft I replaced it with was only 5-6lbs heavier and will probably outlast the world's oil supply. On a car where thousandths of a second count then you can make some strength for weight sacrifices but IMO there just isnt enough of a weight difference to take a chance on for most..
