weight and 3 gears (th400) vs. 2 (p/g) and a P/G with 1 less gearset and less weight, takes less power to drive.

P/G is more for high hp/lightweight cars, or really high hp cars that don't need the extra 1st gear ratio, a p/g with less 1st gear ratio also helps with wheel standing vs. a th400 which has more 1st gear.

P/G cars usually run more stall than a 3 speed setup and have a wider rpm range.

My buddy runs a 6,000 converter in his and shifts into top gear before 1/2 track, then from there it's just mph down the road.

Th350 w/ reverse manual valve body and t-brake. FTI 5600 (on the juice). I leave at about 3800 rpm. Could leave harder but I dont want to hit the bumper. I run a 3.73 gear and a 325-50-15 MT DR (28" tall). I am thinking of dropping to a 3.55 rear gear as I dont like going thru the traps to much over 7K RPM.

My 74 has a Powerglide and 4.56 gears (Dana 60) Launch at 5,500 w/trans brake.

Al

74 Camaro, 489 BBC, glide, 4.56 Dana 60. 9.12 @ 155 in Tucson. I'd sell it for $17K turn key.
