Emissions with an old school engine...
I dont think my car would pass being that its a 69' 327 with a carbed set up and its in a 96' TA.
What could I do to get it to pass with the current engine?
All of you guys that live in states where inspections are easy, take heed. EVENTUALLY all states will have the strict inspections going on.
Another thing that sucks about NY inspection is this....All of your inspection information is linked to your license plate and registration. A cop can run your plate and know if your sticker is valid or not. The days of swapping a "good" sticker are over. Even worse is that we have these "camera" cop cars that have 4 cameras mounted on them. 2 in the front and 2 in the back. The cameras automatically scan the cars ahead and behind and run the plates automatically, alerting the officer when there is a violation.

Run a hot thermostat, have hotter range spark plugs so they burn clean, tune the carb so it's leaned out in the idle and transition circuits, and advance the timing. If the test is with the car in park at idle then it should be easy, just tune the idle circuit lean. If they put it on the roller to simulate cruise condition, it will be under light load which you can also tune but watch the guy doing the test and make sure he doesn't screw around. He should ease into the throttle to simulate normal conditions, not blip the throttle to have fun with your car then make you fail. My state sucks for emissions, a bunch of corrupt racial *****. Tried to do the sniffer test on my 7.3L diesel f250, couldn't figure it out then tried to fail me until a supervisor came out and explained it was a diesel, the sniffer was for gasoline engines. The best thing that ever happened was they shut down the state emissions for 2 years to revamp it. What you should do is since it's a 96 with a computer and that's what they would look for initially, see if you can edit the **** out of it so it'll simply report no codes when they plug into it, they won't know it's not running the engine.
