Default How will this cam sound?

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...1&autoview=sku its in my 427 BBC im wondering if it will have a nice choppy idle? I though someone told me it has alot to do with LSA, is 114 good?

It will be like a stock cam, lots of torque.

Damn, I was hoping it would have a nice lope to it, I got it with the motor brand new, built the motor and just decided to use it, I hope it doesnt sound "Stock"

If you want a choppy idle then you need a lower LSA(112-110). That will also push the powerband into higher rpms though... as a general rule.

.550-560lift, 230-234 @.05, 110 lsa. I think that would sound pretty good.

Ya it will have a little rough sound like one step up from stock not to much.

LSA should be between 110-112 for a choppy idle and 228+ duration at least.

You could advance your cam a little it would help out with the idle you want raise your power band but thats just a band aid you want a different cam. Use that cam get used to the motor break it in and if you decide its not what you want change it. You should make some low end torque alright but if you put a different cam in you will make alot more torque higher up.

Thanks for the help guys, Yeh I was building my Motor for TQ b/c its going into an 1984 chevy silverado with lift and 36" tires. I think I got enough TQ though I can sacrafice a little to get a nice sound

Well bigger cam = more TQ all it does is shift the torque curve to a higher rpm but it makes more TQ.

Thats a common misconception i feel like alot of ppl misunderstand by thinking a bigger cam makes more hp.... Yes it makes more hp only because the torque curve is moved up and tq is made by the best volumetertic efficiency of the engine. So if you allow it to breath more due to overlap and duration and lift it will increase the rpm at which best fill and combustion takes place.

Since hp is a function of tq and rpm then yes it will be higher as the tq curve shifts up. HP means nothing its just the ability to do work torque is acceleration and feel.

Thank you for clarifying, as you can see I do not know much about cams. Let me rephrase and say, I have enough tq down low so I think I can sacrafice some and move the tq curve.
