193k timing chain carnage

193k timing chain carnage so my engine in my K5 just quit on me up on the trail the other night. i hit a bump in the trail pretty hard and it just quit. i figured i knocked an electrical component loose, or broke a wire, so i started chasing wires, and testing components to no avail. so i took it to work (GM dealership) and had one of the techs look at it, and he told me when he cranked it, the dist wasent turning. it could either be a timing chain broke, or a broken camshaft.....well

thats only about half the **** i dug out of the oil pan with a pen magnet. im dropping the pan friday on my day off and cleaning it out...not excited. i was hoping for a simple broken wire i overlooked....

30 bucks total for parts. that includes timing set, coolant, RTV, new oil pan gasket...
i decided im going to pull the cam out while im down there, give me a chance to make sure nothing else got damaged when the chain came apart. i assume it put a ton of stress on the cam when it let loose.

I had something similar happen, just quit on me with no warning in a 3/4 ton suburban. Had the same issue - distributor wasn't turning when I turned it over. Unfortunately for me, the small end of a connecting rod was laying in the lifter valley. The rod failed and shot THROUGH the cam and into the lifter valley. I have NEVER seen a small block do that. Let's hope yours is just the timing chain.
