Default Small block heads

A question about the exhaust gas crossover that exists in the exhaust ports of a small block head. i heard from a teacher at school that this port can be blocked off with an epoxy of some type, apparently it is done in race motors and can give you something like 10 horse by just blocking it off. Anyone know of this process?

Well, considering the exhaust temperatures, i dont know what you could use, besides a set of aftermarket heads if you really were worried about power that much.

I've seen it done with lead before, never seen one epoxied.

You say block it off. I'm assuming you mean fill it so it's closed on the valve side.

You can block them off by using an intake without an exhaust crossover, or by making sheetmetal piece that blocks the port in the gasket.

all that was for was heating the carb so the motor would "warm up" faster. most gasket kits come with open hole or closed off plates to go in the gasket. i wouldn't use epoxy as it will eventually break and possibly get into the engine through the exhaust valve.

I've read articles in a popular tech magazine that the crossover is there to heat up the intake to prevent wet flow from occuring (the pooling of fuel on areas of the manifold).

On newer engines its where the EGR system gets its exhaust gases that it recirculates into the intake manifold.

I've never seen nor heard of flow specs done on that port vs the other ports to know of a difference.

Most aftermarket intakes already have it blocked off, but 10hp is prolly shooting it a lil high.

Hey what kind of DA do they have at your track? 108 trap speed seems a lil low for a 355whp 3rd gen with a T-56, I trapped almost 10mph higher than that with similar numbers.

My ET is from 2001 when I made 319/419 hp/tq.

The dyno numbers are from 2008 but I havent been to the track yet.

The density altitude around Fontana, CA is around 3000' and I'm also a horrible driver.
