Default custom cam anyone?

ok Im having a very bad time with the new stupid Thumpr cam's you cant tune it properly and it needs alot of initial timing its just a crap cam so I decided to custom cam for my Camaro the set up is 383 flat tops with 2 valve reliefs,5.7 rods,Brodix track 1 heads 2.08/1.60 valves and 700" maximum lift, currently it has victor jr intake I will swap it to something has a power band from 1.500 to 6.500 but I dont mind using the victor jr as long as the cam is perfect match, the carb is 750 holley dp,HEI mallory 85,all bolt ons,3.73 gears and 700R4 with 3200 stall the car only see's weekends cruise in good weather so I was thinking of something like 242/246 and 640"/630" lift and 107lsa I want something nasty the rockers are full rollers 1.5 give me some good cam numbers that has alot of power and it MUST be a hyd. roller

That sounds good, on a 112 LSA would be great.

should I go bigger like 255/260? or 242/246 is enough? isnt a close lobe seperation better? ok I know this will sound like a rookie but I want it to sound nasty I care about the power but I want it to be rough idle something revs and response like a dragster the lift will be 648/645 I know 112LSA is a choppy idle but I want rough idle what do you think zones?

I would call Bullet Cams in Mississippi (?) and have them custom grind you one. They are easy to talk to, great people to do business with and build the best cam for your application.

Very compatable on prices. Depends on what style cam it is.

Well, this was a 11 to 1 383, custom grind by comp cams, 248/252 @.050 with .560/.580 lift on a 112 LSA. I loved it, hit 7000 RPM and drove fin as long as the RPMs werent bottomed out.

This was with a comp XE288HR, 236/242, ported 70 model GM turbo castings, would go to 6300 RPM or so.

I think it would be fine, but it will like RPM more and low revs a little less with al that lift. I did a 112 LSA for the nitrous.

Too much cam for what you are doing, not enough compression. Go with about 248/252 at .050 and about .620/.640 lift on a 110. That would work the best for the full potential i believe, or call comp, tell them everything you need to tell them by the questions they ask and they can grind what will work best in their opinion.

I talked to them before they suggest 242/248 on 112lsa I can go with something in 24×/24× or something like what you said but Track 1 heads dont breath well under 600" so thats why I need to take full advantage of them by high lift I like the 248/252 I guess its the best for my set up but how about .640/.660 on closer lsa something from 107-109 ? if Im customizing a cam can I tell them to grind it 4-7 swap?

Yes, you can get them to grin whatever you want. The lift you want is fine, but i would stick with a 110 LSA or higher.

Check out some of David Vizards 383 builds (gofastnews.com). He recommends a real tight LSA on 383's. You can't get enough valve area on our in-line SBC's, so overlap is the key to drawing in enough fresh charge. He usually recommends around a 105 LSA. Of course, you need enough compression. If you are going fuel injection or Nitrous, that tight of an LSA wouldn't be best.

I am running a 236/242 cam in my 10:1 compression 350 (TPI converted to miniram). The LSA is a fairly tight 109. The guy that tuned it pumped in a lot of timing at low RPM. That is the key with a lot of overlap. My car idles just fine at 900RPM.

What boosters are you using in the Hollley? What type of advance in the distributer...only mechanical? Any work done to the idle and transition circuits in the carb or is it all stock?

what do you mean by boosters? its vacuum advance and it was attached to vacuum port on carb and I will put it on manifold and the carb is stock 750 dp no work done to it
