Default TPI engine help.

My friend has an 87' Camaro and her car starts up but wont stay running. It was running fine after she did headers up until she decided to do a burnout lol

So far ive been able to look at the following:

Fuel Pressure is at 46psi, hooked up timing light and the damn thing wont show up on the tab and it keeps moving but the light is consistent to the point where it falls on its face.

I was thinking the timing is off, but i couldn't loosen the hold down bolt for the distributor so i doubt it moved enough to screw up the timing. Gonna throw a MSD coil on it and see if that helps.

Any other ideas?

Thanks guys.

EDIT: It has no AIR or EGR also.

The problem is prolly the distributor if its the original i bet the stator is gone bad....no guarantee though.
could also be the control module in the dist.

We can get it running but it misses, and stumbles like crazy when you hold the throttle open, as soon as you let it go, it falls on its face.

Sounds like the timing jumped really bad when ya did the burnout. You need to see if you can move that distributor a little bit and see if you can keep it running.

Was thinking the same thing. May have jumped several if it wont even stay running. How many miles are on the camaro??? Chain is probably real slack and needs to be replaced.

Just see if you can get a good grip on the distributor holddown bolt and get it to budge so you move the dist. a bit and if you can get it run better then its the chain.

Just a lil story to tell, my cousin picked up a 1985 olds delta88 to just have as a backup car. It had a 307 olds motor that put out a whopping 140 hp, had a single tailpipe and a 200r4 trans. Well to just play around, we took it on a back road and had a Gtech accelerometer on the dash. We set it and the car went thru the 1/4 at a blazing 20 seconds flat at 71 mph! We played with the timing and it was way off on the balancer so we decided to change the timing chain and we went back out to Gtech it again. It ran the 1/4 in 18.6 seconds! We had tears in our eyes from laughing so hard. Now who says nitrous is the best bang for your buck? We also put dual exhaust on it later and Gtech it again and it went 17.7 in the 1/4. We planned on spraying it but the motor spun a bearing before we could do so. The fun of being young!

Unplugged the MAF and it was able to keep itself running without stalling...

Bad MAF?

You should be able to at least get timing close by how it is running.

Did you disconnect the EST wire? I'm assuming the F-bodies have them, you won't see the base timing without disconnecting it. Otherwise the computer will adjust timing as you play with the distributor.

Turning the distributor will adjust ignition timing.

Timing chain controls cam timing. Even if he turns the distributor to advance or retard the ignition timing, the engine will won't run if the timing chain jumped and the cam timing is way off.
