Help With Head Choice
i have a 350 small block
pete jackson gear drive
292 comp cam
RPM air gap manifold
long tube headers
600cfm carter carb
HEI setup
turbo 400 tci transmission
3.73 gears
3000 stall converter
i was looking for a set of vortec heads but i cant seem to find any
so i was thinking 2nd option camel hump heads
some questions i had though was if i run the vortec heads the only thing that needs to be changed is the manifold right? they can use the same head gaskets and same headers?
how much more power will the vortec heads make over the camel hump heads
and yes i know either way i have to have the valve springs change to work with the cam i have

Get the Vortec heads, yes you will have to get a Vortec manifold. Also, check the header flange to see if it matches the exhaust ports on the Vortec heads.
Seems that you can get about 400-420 horsepower from that setup.

If you are pulling a set of Vortecs from the JY, you will need to have a valve job done, guides cut down for the lift, new springs and retainers along with the new manifold. I'd add up that cost and weigh it against a new set of aluminum (or cast iron) heads from the aftermarket.
Leave the double hump heads for the class racers who are forced to use them. They can flow quite well, but the effort and $ adds up quickly.

the head gasket will work fine with any sbc head unless it was 400ci and if you cant buy vortec heads get L98 aluminum heads the air gap you got will need some machining for the center bolts just a little bit thou got them in my wrangler and loved them

More like in the 11's if you hook well and the car is light.

11's would be nice but im not going to get my hopes up the car is a 1966 el camino so its most likely around 3500 + the only thing thats lighter then stock are pro star wheels and fiberglass inner fenders haha

I'm not sure that the hp numbers you have been told are going to be as close as your hoping... I'de say a little closer to 350. the vortec heads are great heads for a budget build but they really need a good port job to shine. Its not hard to make 400 hp w/ vortec heads though. I've seen some make 500 w/ vortec heads and 2 barrel carbs(dirt track engines)
but saying a comp 292 camshaft doesnt give enough info... you can get a couple of different comp 292 cams. is it a hydraulic or solid? which grind? comp has about 5 different grinds of camshafts.

not every country got the same set up in my country they just remove the guide plates and put large pushrods and they didnt even bend one pushrod or broke a rocker but putting guide plates back is safe side its like the saying "better safe than sorry"
