Porting Vortec 062 heads, what should be done?
what should be done to portpolish/gasket match 062 vortec heads, is there any gains worth the effort or should the heads be left stock

On the Vortecs, the most bang will come from more porting done on the exhaust side. There will be some gains from porting the intake bowl, but more will be come from porting the exhaust.

leve the gasket are alone. you could go in the head about a inch and open up the pushrod pinch, then narrow the valve guide and blend the bowl into the valvejob. that should be good.

You can straighten the intake ports up a little bit and make them match the intake a little better but the Skinnier and taller they are on the vortecs the better they do. Grind down the valve guides and round them off nicely along with making a distinct shape on the metal that leads up to the guide and smooth it out (Try to make every cylinder Identical so use something to measure with). Some say that opening the pushrod area up more than about an eighth of an inch really kills flow so be careful there. The most important part is behind the valves. Take out the distinct lips and then some and try to make some volume here. The same goes on the exhaust side but do not try to take to much metal out for the walls aren't really thick here(I put a hole in one I know first hand) but up near the exhaust exit there is plenty of metal to form a D shape if desired.
