I have a 1988 Chevrolet Shortbed Stepside with a crate 350 stock in it, i am wanting to get some performance out of the truck and keep from spending 15,000 dollars on the engine. Should i swap for an LS2 or should i mod out the ehgine i already have (ie. engine bore)? Please help. Any suggestions will help. thank you.

why would you have to spend 15000 dollars to get the performance out of your 350. they make forged kits for 500$ to 1000$ for a 350 on ebay and they are really good kits. eagle is just one. you can forge and twin turbo a 350 for around 1500 to 2000$. and you can do it yourself or have a beer party and have lots of help. me and my son are going to put in his 4 bolt main small block 400 in my 1987 chrysler conquest after we get it done just like i told you. it is going to be a very nasty little car. and cheap to build.
As far as the ls1 and ls2 are concerned you are going to get into a much higher price for modding the engines. you can make them non fuel injection but they are still going to be alot higher to mod than a regular old 350.

I am assuming the 10k budget is for everything...transmission and some suspension? I would buy a new 383 short block, AFR 195 heads (or similar) with 10.5:1 compression, RPM Air Gap, 750 Mighty Demon, Hydraulic roller with 240@.050" duration and around .600 lift on a 108LSA, some 1 3/4 headers, and a 3000 stall converter in a rebuilt 700R4. I would build the motor from a fresh short block and then sell your 350 to recoup some money. This should make 500HP and all together cost less than 10K. Shop for a 383 short block made from a newer roller block, so the cam swap is nice and easy. For traction, get a set of Cal Tracks and sticky tires and hold on!
