SBC or LS Style?
A few years ago, I would have recommended Scat, but their quality control now leaves a lot to be desired IHMO. Even an used, forged factory unit would be better. Whatever you buy, be sure to mic out the new crank or have a competent machine shop do it for you. (A high RPM busted crank will take out an engine quick!)
Once your budget allows, sell the SBC and buy an LS series engine. New learning curve, but great little engines. Junkyards are your friends especially the "you-pull" type.
Whatever you do, have fun!
If for some reason you change the rotating assembly (rot. ***.) look into Ohio Crankshafts. They make a great product and they are fair on their prices. I would recommend the "383 Street Rodder Small Block Chevy" kit. I have the "383/406 Small Block Chevy Super Kit" in my motor and have had hundreds of nitrous bottle through it. my 385 SBC has about 15K hard miles on it and its still goin.
