Carb or EFI?

Carb or EFI?
As some of you may have read in the project thread, I am building a 572 for my 99 Z28. It will be a drag car, but I may drive it to town, to scare the locals, on the weekends. Should I go with a carb or EFI? Don't know if it matters, but it's a Merlin III block, with AFR 357's, and I am going to buy a TH400 to put behind it.Thanks guys

I don't want to hi-jack your thread but I have the same question for my 4 bolt main 350 that I'm makeing a 383 stroker. Everybody is telling me EFI because of the low maintenance. You have to rebuild a carb quite often.

right now since my carb has no choke i have to wait for ever till it somehwhat warms up before i can drive. also it take a few times to get it too start ie: pump the **** out of the carb to get it to fire

i'll say carb also. with that many cubes i'd get atleast a 1150-1290 cfm dominator.demons are great carbs once tuned right,i have one now and will never own another holley after having a demon.you can tune a carb to start your car easily and quickly and the investment will be about a third of a fuel injection system capable of keeping up with a 572.

how much $$$ do you want to spend on the induction? when tuned right, the efi will make more power at track and a quick retune will let you rule downtown.
OF course, the $$$ factor is what will decide if you cain have that.

Well i chose a carb, they are still reliable! They dont cost an assload of money! I have a chokeles carb too, and yea u gotta let it warm up for a minute before u can roam the town waiting for the next victim!

I would say carb as well. Easy to install and alot cheaper. I would guess tuning a cabed drag car would be easier than one with efi. ( efi tuned on dyno and computer? carb tuned at track ) I too have a Demon, which I like more than Holley. My Demon doesn't have a choke either, but I have no problems with cold idle. Got to love Florida weather.

Actually you can usually make more HP easier with a carburetor than you can with EFI. This is due to the fact that you can generally get better intake manifolds, and a carburetor will actually atomize the fuel better. It is very common for a carbureted engine to beat an FI motor when going head to head. This is why you can now buy carburetor intake manifolds for new engines like an LS1 or LS7. Also, at 572" you're probably not going to get in it and drive it like you would your daily driver you're going to want to let the engine get up to temp for safety.
