Default 327 cam choice?

I need to order a cam soon for my carbed N/A 327. I'm looking for a large cam that is still streetable, something like a street/strip application. Any info at all will be a big help.

Heads, intake, carb - need suggestions.

Trans - th350 or th400.

Converter - 3000-3500 stall.

Gears - I'm thinking 3.90's

I'd like to make close to 400RWHP, and maybe later push 550 on the bottle. I was going with a 454 but decided to run this small block and now I'm back to point A. Thanks for the help man.

I agree on the above listings. You'll need a cam that can spin between 6500-7000 rpm to come close to 400 RWHP, plus a good set of heads as well. I'd look Victor Jr. intake and a 650/750 HP Holley. you might want to consider a solid roller camshaft as well. My 383 is making 372 hp at the wheels, and that's with Canfield heads, Vic Jr. 750 HP Holley, 3" exhaust, TH400 with a 10" 3800 stall. Might be a little lofty for 400 RWHP but can be done.

Good luck!

I achieved 400hp in my 327 by punching out the block .060 over previous owner blew it up with nitrous. The cam I choose was an edelbrock 234/244 @ 0.50 on a 112 lsa. To top it off I put on a set of gm fast burn aluminum race heads 2.00 intake and 1.58 exhaust with 1.6 rockers and a polished high rise intake with a demon carb. The power band is awesome and it pulls all the way to 7200 with no problems and it idles great through a th350 with a tci 3000 stall. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks again for all of the help guys, tons of great info here. I had a family friend offer me $500 for just the block and crank earlier today, are these old 327's worth anything or is he crazy?! I'm thinking about selling it to him, so I'm open to any kind of small block setup that will put these numbers down. If you guys have any input I'd really appreciate it.

bare blocks can go upwards of $600-$1000 if they have casting #s matching what someone needs for a restoration, or if the block is a 4-bolt main version.

If you are looking to start from scratch, more cubes the better! I love my 383, but if I ever have the funds I'll build a 434-454 based off an aftermarket block (stronger, more material, more cubes = more power).

Good luck either way!

I guess that makes sense. I thought about it some more and I'm just going to keep the 327, I've already got the thing apart and it's begging for a buildup. Thanks for the help, if anyone has any other info to add just send it my way.

Oh, and I've got a set of Corvette 350HP heads, are these worth using?
