valve clearance issues with sbc

Default valve clearance issues with sbc

this is justins friend. this is the cam i have that i want to install, but i want to know if it will fit work with stock heads. is there going to be an issue with valve clearance. this is a cam kit.
the engine i have is a gen 1 350

Camshaft Description:

Part Number K 12-214-4
Grind Number CS 305H-10

Specifications:

Valve Lift .525" .525"
Duration At 0.006" 305° 305°

These specs are for the cam installed at 106° intake center line:

Duration @ 0.050" 253° 253°
Lobe Separation 110°

My cam is 254/257 @.050 with .712 lift. I have a to of room for clearance. however, you should check yourself just in case.

Piston to valve clearance. Stock shortblock. Stock pistons.

The truck has a cam in it as it is. But we aren't sure which. The heads are iron so I believe those are stock as well.

Anytime you put a performance part in anything it is a must to check everything its not always easy and its always time consuming but if you want to do it just once do it right and take your time dont miss anything my take jz

In my experience you cannot just put an aftermarket cam in 'straight up' and expect it to be ok. I tried that and turned the engine by hand my first time and the exhaust valves hit the piston. You have to degree the cam with a degree wheel to make sure it's right. I have a friend that put a Lunati solid cam in his 350 and it runs like crap, I told him to degree it and Lunati's tech guy said to install it straight up...he installed it straight up and it still runs like crap. Moral...it might run, but doubtful it will run well, it might not even run.

the last dozen or so Lunati cams we checked did not even have the same #s on the aposing side 1 / 6 much less the rest of the motor but customer is always right and we installed cant tell if it does anything but it sure does not seem right when you check it in my shop the crane stuff is always what it sayes and lobe runout and cam straightness is mostly right on if not they take it back no so with comp a month ago we built a 540 w/ a 748 748 roller and had to advance it 6 deg just to get it to match the cam card we called their tech and was told thats in the spec or some other bull but you are correct if you dont check it you will be doing it again real soon jz
