Stroker Motor

If you have the dough, they have 427+ci inch kits for the small block chevy. But that's getting into some series cash. 383 is a dime a dozen now, and you can get a forged setup for not much more than a grand.

awesome heads, solid roller,hi comp. dart block, 4000 stall, 3.73 or 4.10 gears

why not an LSx instead, like a 375 ci iron block or 400+ci one
550-600+hp easy with stock type heads and parts
i built engine for a friend over .060 6.0 l block, stock crank,=375 ci, and LS6 heads,
Trex cam, 750 dp,th400, makes about 475 to the wheels or close to 600 on motor, makes more power than sbc 383
u need some awesome heads and solid roller, to make 500-600 hp n/a
with an sbc, like some dart pro 1's or better which are like 1500-2000 $ or better
LSx L92 heads outflow most any sbc heads short of a 18* or hi prepped race 23* heads for sbc and are less than 1000$
but then again i am biased towards LSX but i build alot of SBC also
my 0.02$
I'd stick 383, as I've had good luck with mine, and the shop that built mine turns out plenty of them since rotating assemblies are much more affordable than they were 6-10 years ago. Current one gets 13 mpg highway with a TH400, 3800 stall converter and 3.73 gears, and 370 rwhp. That's with a small (under .530 lift) solid cam, and I know a roller will make more
427 can be done, but IMHO once you get over 400 cubes, bigger heads are a good choice, thus more $$$, and even an aftermarket block for strength.Good luck!

1)383...10:1 compression
2)195 AFR heads
3)230/236 .520 cam
4)Single plane manifold
5)750cfm carb
6)1 3/4" headers
You can build a 396 SBC no problem or even get a 400 block and make it a 406 and build up from there(just have a cooling system to match your hp levels plus the 400 blocks run hotter than 350 blocks)
The EFI route does get expensive but for the reliability and driveability....there is no substitute.
