I recently pulled the 396 out of my 67 camaro and tore the engine down to have it rebuilt and I found out that it has a 366 crank from a 366 bb. Does anyone know why the previous owner would have done this? Also, the engine has stock oval port heads from the same year.

I'm pretty sure that the 366 crank and 396 crank are interchangable, they are the same stroke at 3.76", but the 366 block is a 3.935" bore tall deck vs 4.093"
Don't quote me on that....

Thats what I was thinking as well (except I thought the stroke was 3.75). I know for a fact the 427 truck crank is the same as the 396/402/427 cranks and I think the 366 truck crank was the same as the 427 truck crank. Only difference is some of the passenger 396 cranks are cast iron where as all of the truck cranks were forged.
