Default fuel injected 355

So here is the deal, I want to build up a 355, no problem there, but I want to fuel inject it. I have a few ideas how to do this. But I can't figure out the best way to do it for the money. I was thinking about just doing a stock set up like a TPI. Then there is doing the LT1 intake. Or I could do a carb intake and drill holes for the fuel injecters. Any way that I do it will nickle and dime me to death... What do you guys think would give me the most bang for my buck?

use a lt1 harness and pcm,
it will control ur injectors, but u can still run conventional cooling and a dist.
no prob. there, just a little ingenuity,i have done this before
also use all the lt1 sensors possible.

well see for the harness and pcm I was thinking of mega sqirt. I have a 97 v6 camaro that I am stuffing this 355 into. All I want to know is what is the best for my money in hardware items, such as intake injeters and trottle body. Basically I am starting with nothing but the 350 out of a truck. The plan is to get some nasty heads and a forged rotating assebly. I just want to know what is the best plan for fuel injecting it.

LT1's do not use a conventional distributor, It uses optispark.

Since you have a 350 block out of a truck I am going to suspect that it is a gen I block, so unless you like lots of fancy machine work that will restrict you to gen I parts.

What to buy all depends on the money you have. The easiest thing to do would be to buy a TPI engine and ecm and drop it in. If you are thinking of converting an LT1 intake, I am going to assume that you hae $400-500 to spend on just the intake. so save yourself some hassel and go with a Holley stealth ram.

If you have no experience in tuning a ecm, I suggest you have a credible person burn you a chip untill you can do it yourself. Stay away from TPIS proms. I would choose a TPI ecm over an LT1 any day. the cost of tuning them is dramatically less, they are cheaper and easier to find and more has been done to them to make tuning them a breeze. I currently tune them for myself and friends by using TunerPro.

I have used MegaSquirt and I think that it is superb. I had it on two previous engines and still have a V 2.2 in my basement. Megasquirts only downfall is it's strength; you build it, fix it, tune it. This is fun for me, but I have soldered many things before and have had electronics classes. And if it breaks, there is no sending it to the manufacturer.

as for injectors, stick with ford motorsport injectors, stay away from accels.

I'd get the Accel Super ram setup from LPE. TB, intake, runners, rails, injectors, fuel pump, ecm, everything in one package. Not cheap up front, maybe cheaper by the time you are done though.

Im planning on making my 89 gta into a drag car, so I have been looking down the same lines.

Good Luck!

i've been down the same road as you, i ended up just using a stock tpi speed density harness and ecm, a gen 1 non roller block, and went with the holley stealth ram intake set up, i've pretty much have been forum hopping in the classifieds to get all my parts, and have about 3000 in a fully built motor so far so just keep an eye out. but if you can spare 2g's off the getgo for intake and engine managment, accel dfi or FAST XFI any compatible intake system (mini ram, super ram, holley stealth ram) with respectable injectors and TB for you application

I currently have a stealth ram with a FAST ecm and love it to death. Plus i'm making 400+ hp on a fairly mild 355.

Does the holley stealth ram fit under the stock LT1 Camaro hood?

Better question is would it clear the cowl, which I highly doubt it would. You need a lower profile intake, like an LT1 intake.
