I want to build a 377 motor also. One day I will have thoughts of throwing it into a street/strip 10.5 tire lightweight notch stang. Maybe even run a two stage shot of spray also.

But a good used 400 iron block is getting hard to find now a days I have heard.

I am having trouble to decide if I want to put my built 468 bbc in my 79 malibu or wait and save up to build a forged ls2 motor with a carb intake on it. It would make just as much if not more power and be lighter on the front end but yet it would cost some dough. I may wait and throw the ls2 project into a notch stang when I get one later down the road for a project.

I say build what ya want to build. Look at the nascar motors and how much hp they make with only 358 cubic inches. They also rev way up there.

I would love to put a sbc2 nascar spec motor in a drag or street car.

Its sad with all that new advance stuff in nascar that the old, bigger body cars with less aerodynamics can run just as fast as todays cars are. Even though they were running big blocks also back then but still makes you think.

2 ways of acheiving 377:

4.000bore x 3.75 stroke
4.125(beleive thats a 400 bore) x 3.48 stroke.

Remember though, if you want 377, and are thinking of either a destroked 400, or stroked 350, more bore is ALWAYS better then more stroke. Less stroke = less piston travel, less friction, less wear.

A shorter stroke engine has smaller weights and will rev up faster. The smaller stroke is also more stable. A destroked 400 wont do anything to the block, but stroking a 350 could end up in broken cams, broken rods etc if the block is not cleared properly.

Hope this helps.

If it's a new project, and you can afford to do it correctly. Buy a new big bore block and you won't have to worry about finding some old used block. We haven't used a stock block in years. Especially with the new LSX block coming out next month, we will never use a stock block for anything.

I agree on that, after this new block comes out I don't think you could give away an old block anymore.

Especially since it is compatible with every LSX part from every gen.

It is just plain badass all around. It will definately end C5-R and resleeved LS1/6 sales.
