if i were building the block, i would go with a 406 instead. but a 377 would be different.

Agreed, go 406 with that block, or sell it and go 383 instead...

With a 377ci badge on the side of the car you would certainly get a lot of head scratches from LS1/LT1 amateurs.

LOL, They would think, poor boy has a 383 and can't even add up the numbers.
If it were mine I would be all over a 406. Get the most cubes you can for your dollar.

Seems like a more expensive way to build an engine that automaticly gives up cubic inches to a ceaper and torqueyer 383. But I am a guilty 283 and 327 lover though. A 377 would be cool.

The 406 will be faster. 377s do rev well, but why give up the cubes you already have? Build the 406 with 5.7 rods on the cheap.

If your buying a new crank (a good steel one I hope) then go 421 or 434 you have to buy new pistons for any of the motors mentioned in any of the threads, rods are the only extra exspence. so for roughly the same money you can get these motors I can build one for roughly $8000 intake to pan. And they would make 600 to 650 hp. I'm not tring to sell you one just letting you know what can be done.

My 434 is 15.5:1 je pistons oliver rods lunati crank brodix fully ported and angle milled heads holley pro dominator 2x4 intake with 2 750 hp holleys flowing 780 cfm I have the best of the best in the motor in my chevelle and it dyno'd at 657hp on motor and 1190hp on a 400 shot of nos so yes you can make big power with a 377 but I don't know about 675 especialy with 23* heads 15* maybe.

Sorry to bring up an old topic but.........

IMO I would build the 377. They scream and make serious power up top. Its all in the combo. Build it so it comes out of the hole at 5,500 and let that puppy wing its way down the track. Remember by destrokeing you will have less rod angle, less rotating mass and less stress on the engine. Couple that with the large bore and you suddenly have a monster of a motor. If built right it will last longer than a stroked motor and make just as much power. Plus dont we all love the sound of a healthy V8 screaming at 9 grand down the track?

BTW I am building a 377 with an 8-71 looking for 8's in a streetable car this summer. turn down the boost on the street and cruise on pump gas. Crank it back up and run race fuel at the strip. I also am seriously thinking about doing a twin turbo setup but i havent any experiance with turbos and I hate the turbo lag you get with large turbos.

cubes wont denote how many rpms can be turned.... a smaller cubic inch motor simply requires less air to make power up at that rpm band. Therefore you can go buy cheaper heads, which wont flow as much over all, but you'll think its cool because you can turn the motor so high.

Why wont a larger cube motor turn that high, or at least feel like its still pulling up there? You dont have enough head and cam in it to support airflow at that rpm range. But I bet it makes just as good if not better power as the smaller motor at a lower rpm! Put better heads on it, and balance it, and it'll absolutely destroy any smaller inch motor that somebody thinks is bad because it turns so many rpms. Plus you'll be able to turn those rpms yourself.

If all this power can be made spinning small blocks so high, why do you think so many drag racers go with big blocks? Make the same power at a lower rpm and dont tear up so much sh*t due to the better head flow.

RPM is all about air, not about cubes... that can EASILY be overcome with the proper balancing.
