Default Machine shop questions

How much would your average machine shop charge to clean up a crank for new bearings, punch the block out to 355 CUI, hone, and hot tank?

I have heard its like $15 a hole to bore it. Engine will be tore down to the block.

Please seperate prices also.

I will not have the chance to call around untill after the first of the year.

The guy who did my block work charged 275 for hot tank, checked for cracks, bore, hone, deck, notched for 400 crank, new cam bearings installed, and freeze plugs. And hes in anderson, about 20 miles from indy. He builds many race motors and really knows his stuff. Not sure what he charges to clean up cranks, but i know he has the machine to do it. Let me know if youre interested in his number.

Name is Steve Kline, he lives fairly close to john spears. I think he lives off of 400 south and either 300 or 350 east. Juiced96z, what part of indy are you from?

ok, our 100 dollars or so, just for a prespective , was to hot tank, shot peen and then resurface and clean and inspect again, you had to buy the bearings seperate upstairs. we worked under a parts store lol, we got really into cleaning and inspecting again when we had some shot get cloged up in a crank oiling hole.. chewed up a customers 440.. ugg..

some people dont like cutting on cranks and will just get a new crank for a bit more $

Machining prices in the US are not off the wall. I just went to a friends shop they quoted me $1000 + they will "throw in" a set of studs for the mains. AND dont forget the 14% tax on that which brings us to $1140.
F*&(ken insane!!!

i got about 1100 in work done to my block

hot tanked
magnafluxed
remove all old freeze plugs and bearing
put new freeze plugs and cam bearings
smooth lifter valley/ enlarge drain hole
hone lifter bores
1/2 fill (block filler)
zero decked
bored & hone cyl walls
clearances for 383

but for just a regular 350 build that doesnt need all the little things i have for a race motor (block fill, smoothed lifter valley, clearance for stroker crank)can be had for about 500 all said and done
