small block motor help There is this kid on a forum that jsut got a replacement for his blown up L98 TPI - his mechanic must of told him that it was fast or something anyway he is very disapointed, could a few of you check out the link and maybe give him an idea of what is wrong?

That motor has turd written all over it, the camshaft is a horrible choice for a 305 with no compression and crap heads. A 1978 305 with a quadrajunk just might be one of biggest boat anchors Chevy ever made.
He needs to get back the TPI motor, I'm sure most of it is reusable. Then beat the sh*t out of the idiot mechanic that talked him into it.
A dead bone stock 89 Camaro with L98 TPI should run around high 14's. The 78 305 will probably be lucky to run 17s or 18s. The "new" camshaft may have made it even slower.
