Default Heads for a Street BBC

I am new to the old school BBC stuff and I am wanting to do a heads and intake swap on a 427. What should I be going with in the aluminum dept? I'm pretty sure an "out of the box" head will do all I am looking to do at this point. I have to get the car driving right at this point also. (67 vette)

I've seen a set of heads that Dart makes. Aluminum oval port head that flows over 300cfm out of the box according to Chevy High Performance. Did it with just a 265cc runner too. I think it's called a dart race series head.

I am curious what the people that actually know what they are talking about think of these. I can't even find anyone selling these! But they look awesome.

This link has some more options.

My vote is for the AFR 265cc oval ports. They out flow the Darts mentioned above on a test bore of 4.310". They are also preaty reason able on price as well.

I also need to utilize a stock hood so a single plane intake is necessary. I know a high rise should offer more, but as it stands now I am working with the stock hood. Will a HP 750 be a good carb to stick with a combo like this?

i think the gm aluminum oval ports would be the best for the money. the brodix race rite heads flow less and cost more. with oval port heads you can use a torker2 intake and it will clear the stock corvette hood. the gm heads can use the stock pushrods where the darts and afr heads require longer ones to get the valve train geometry correct

My suggestion would be to go with the Race Rites. They have teh stock exhaust port height so that the headers won't be a problem. They flow really well out of the box. If you really want some good advice on BBC's, go poke around on Chevelles.com. Look up a guy named "Wolfplace". (Mike). Guy knows everything you need to know about BBC's, and he has some wiggle room on the pricing.

Afr as cast high velocity square ports. 305cc. 360cfm stock.
If you go to their website look under bbc articles find the one named" power combos a classic 427 from resto to rad" youll be impressed. The last run with stock 305's and comps 288ar # 11-692-8 solid roller, 600hp @6500 520 tq @5500 with vc jr intake 850 cfm 9:1 compression too boot. sprayed with a zex plate 150 shot 720 @6k 674 @5k. Building a duplicate save for the xtream 11-772-8 XR286R roller or a little bigger if I dont drop the compression bellow 11:1. with newly aquired pro race fogger.
Carcraft just built a 496 using the same heads with the larger extream XR292R it made 700+hp. After about a month of reaserch Ive come to the conclusion that the 305's are the best bang for the buck. By the way the GM ovals are Edlebrocks performers.

Another vote for alum ovals.

Weight saving, repairable, less heat, ect ect. You said you're not trying to set the world on fire. Good basic combo, you'll do fine. Good luck.
