Well, i just say leave it stock stroke, get a scat rotating assembly al forged. You are pushing your limit stroking a stock GM 400. 414 cubes is the safe limit and not really worth it, just do a 406 and call it good.

Stay with a 406, it's a lot less work and 10 cubic inches + or - isn't worth the extra money or work I think. When you put 406 stuff in a 400 block it fits without issue, no grinding, no off spec rod length or custom pistons, bolt in the parts and go.

Keep it simple, btw afr 227's are awesome, but I think they need offset rockers so you know if you don't already have them. I had a set of 210's I love those heads, never had an issue and great performance, 10 sec motor passes with a destroked 400 (377") with a pretty small cam and not enough stall or gear and it still ran hard.

The largest rpm freindly stroke crank that I would use is 3.875". The work involved with clearancing the block is not really worth it in my opinion, unless you have a heavy Chevy. I like the de-stroked version myself, I have had great luck with running the 3.5" or 3.562" stroke cranks.

what is the stock stroke?it wont need stroked to be a 406 right wont a 30 overbore make it a 406 so i could run the stock stroke with no machine to the block.what would be the advantage of destrokeing it to a 377?

The destroke ends up making a higher revving motor.

The stock stroke is 3.75" and a .030" over block makes it a 406.
