I would build the 302 in the car since it would be worth while, and make good power and also be different

Put some boom tubes on it and it would sing at high rpm!

before they had the DZ 302, people would take a 283 and bore them .125 over to get a 302 (actually 301.xxx). Very thin cylinder walls and would run warm but make power.

Now days you can chose MUCH better heads and feed a 350, 383 or 406 to a higher RPM and make more low and mid range TQ while doing it.

Only reason to build on is if you have a factory DZ302 car and matching block. If not, save your $$$ and build a 350, 383 or 406 and make more HP, more TQ and you will be happier with the way the car runs.
Real good advice. Build the bigger cube motor and put 302 badges/stickers on it. The 302 was a screamer designed around SCCA Trans-am Racing, lots of RPM and to make it work on the street, lots of gear( 4.56's)

Here's a vid of one on a dyno

Sweet motors, but if you are looking for power on the street in the year 2008 then take advantage of the 30+ years of technology since then.

For less money (or near identical money) you could build a 383 and make the same power and only spin 6000rpm not 8500rpm or 9000 rpm. RPM=$$$

Good Luck

Check out my post for piston identification. There are a few pics of some pistons I have on e-bay that ends very soon. A few people told me that these pistons are for a 302 due to the 4" bore and the 1.85" pin location. Im not too sure but this seems right to me if you have the right rod. These pistons are very aggresive and I believe they are made by Manley. I will attach some photos. Check out e-bay if you are interested.
Thanks.

Does anyone know what size carb's were run on the cross ram setup? And I checked Summitt and Ebay and couldn't find that intake, I found the intake on Holley's website but I couldn't find a price there, does anyone know where I could find a price at? And what would be a good cam profile, for an aggressive street car?

I built a 302 about 20+ years back just to be different. Old Duntov high duration camshaft and fuelly heads. Made good peak power, but had no bottom end under 5500 rpm. Very poor match for a heavy car. Should have done a 350, but sometimes you just have to scratch that itch.
Might be a good turbo motor these days.

Well this is going in a '72 Nova, and I was looking at running 2 Holley 500 cfm carbs with an Offenhauser cross ram intake. I really need some help in picking out a cam for this. I'm pretty sure I want to go mechanical, but I have no idea on how to pick out lift and duartion. Also, I want to get aluminum heads, but I don't want to spend a lot on those right now. Would I be better off to just run some iron heads with all the neccesary valve train, and then swap the valve train to the aluminum heads later on? Or is that even possible?
