Thumbs up looking at this crane cam the vortec headed 383

let me know what your opinions are on this cam
it says its a good cam for nitrous which the 383 has a 175 shot on it.
this is for my dads car he wants to shift around a 7k. I think this cam will do the trick for what he wants.
Its not a big lift and should sound pretty good.
just to let you guys know he has the gears, stall, and the motor is built to handle 8000 rpm shifts.

That is a great street cam. Not my choice and it is not going to rev to 8000 rpms in a 383 with vortecs on it I think it will tap out around 6500-6800 rpm. If it were me I would want this to run strong on motor and add nitrous on top of it. Look for a cam with a 106-108 lobe center.

I have a similar cam and extensively ported vortecs and I shift at 6800, I was hoping to shift at 7000 as well but it just didnt pull above 6800, maybe the extra displacement and the slight differences in the cam will help him get there.

your cam is nowhere near the same as the one the OP listed. Yours is like 216 duration, Correct? Yours isnt a bad grind. I would NOT use the one listed in this thread though. That is a LAZY grind....Low lift, lotsa duration.

hows your coolant temp with those ported heads?

his heads are ported with 2.02/1.60 valves and the temp ranges 180°-200°. he has a griffin 2 core raditor with a 160 stat and it wont get colder than 180. I just think it runs a tad hot because of all the port work.
when I do the cam swap I will pull the heads and get them checked out. He had kinda got the car hot at the track a while back. he for got to turn the fan on.

My cau usually runs about 170 I've had it get to about 190 but never any higher, I am using a jegs 2 core radiator with 1 pusher and 1 puller fan and a 160 t-stat. I also have a large hole cut in my front bumper cover and no real metal bumper to improve air flow.

I've havent had it to the track yet, I just got it together this spring and I've been so busy with another car I'm building for a buddy, a BBC chevette, I havent had the time to get it out there, I've actually only driven it about 10 times since its been done.
