Default Starter problem?

Ok im about to swap a 383 in my 92 Z28 TPI can I use the starter from the TPI on the 383?

is it the same motor
is it a staggered mount starter or not

older motors are staggered mount usually but the one that came off ur tpi is not staggered mount thus wont work if it is staggered mount then it should work fine

the 383 is a roller engine from 98 GMC vortec

If it is the small flex plate from the old motor then the old starter should work, if you used the vortec truck flex plate then you must use the truck starter and lose clearance by the header(SUKKKS).

ok I dont know if you guys understood me or not but I will try to explain more I got a 383 stroker engine and the block is from 98 vortec engine as the previous owner claim since the crank is 400 now which starter should I use? its now 168 tooth right?

The 86+ blocks are 1 piece rear seals, the 400s were 2 piece, so unless he used an adapter he is full of it. You will need to find out how it was balanced too. The aftermarket cranks i buy must be balanced and i match them to rear balanced flywheels for LT1s ect.

he told me that its external balanced I will ask him today which starter he used on that motor
