Default Power Gains

I am in the process of building up my 355 for my 2nd gen.

I need to know if I should just port the stock heads on it or get a set of vortecs? I know the vortecs will give me more ponys just how many more?

Thanks in advance

Depends on which castings you have right now. The power can range from a gain of 25-55 HP difference.

Well, it looks as all i can find is a 3890462, so you might have the 3 looking close to an eight. Those have no accessory holes right? If so, if you need the brackets that work off the 87+ serp system, i might use newer heads, but the vortecs will deffinatly be worth your time over those outdated cammels.

It currently has a flat tappet cam and i am going with a solid roller with decent lift. Around .550. I have a edlebrock dual plan intake, Holley 650, Dommed kb pistions, and a set of heddman headers. I just dont want to hold the motor back with stock heads if a set of vortecs or different heads would boast much better numbers

Well, the vortecs would do better but a solid roller is going to want more. Aftermarket is calling your name.

Well, what is your intended use? Street, strip, both, weekends only?

It will work but a 195/200 CC intake runner would be better, 190 cc at the least.

Dont buy Vortecs, they are garbage compared to todays aftermarket plus with cost of self-aligning rocker arms, centerbolt covers, and special intake manifolds, you spend more money than a good set of aftermarket heads. Check out RHS heads, they make an awesome product at a good price and have alot of different heads for your application.

dart, brodix, or rhs. these are very potent sbc heads, especially for the money. aluminum heads only if it were mine.

Just want to make sure my purchases are on the right products.
My buddy recommends jegs but havent heard much about them or RHS.
This is a budget build but dont mind spending money on quality products.

The IK 200 brodix heads are priced right. My buddy used a set and the output was pretty good.

before buying the ik's, lok around on some forums for what the knock off is. i think its jegs or summit(1 of there models) are actually ik heads with there name on them and there cheaper. it will save some money from paying for the name. look at flkow #s for the heads and compare them to the afr 195 or bigger. from my experience the afr's outflow almost everything. just remember that you should buy the best head you can afford, because they can always go on the next bigger build. if the ik's are 300-500 cheaper than a comparable afr of the same size, the afr will give more power. just figure what your leaving on the table for that few hundred dollors, that usually cant be made up elsewhere.what i mean by that is, on the ls engines, people pay 700 or more for an intake that gives them 30hp or a littl more. look at the brodix website for dyno builds, look at afr web for proven dyno builds. google proven dyno builds. brodix, afr, and others have free catalogs also with there parts that you can request online. here is a link to compare head flow #s. the afr 195 blow the ik 200 out of the water.
http://www.purplesagetradingpost.com...Brodix%20IK200

take a look at this site for proven combos with what heads and cams andparts used to get an idea of what might work for you.

The nock off for the IK 200 is the Summit heads, the Jegs heads are Canfields.
