Not a "bad" cam for daily driver, but there is better out there. The Hot Cam is now considered "old technology". There has been a lot of cam development for the ls1s since then.

Go to the Internal section you can get a lot of info there.

It has a lot of bark and little bite... I have seen them dyno 360-380 range in a full bolt on M6. On the plus side you wont have to change your valve springs often. Like Ladyredhawk said "old technology".

Very well put. I'd say it'd be more for sound than HP gains due to better choices out there that'd be totally streetable for a DD.

Go to the For Sale Section and find a used cam in 220-228 range duration with whatever lift for as cheap as possible.
Hot cam is OK, but for all the work in a swap you might want to start with a winner from the start.
Everyone seems happy with something around 224. I LOVE the cam in my sig.

Thumbs up

Thanks everyone for the responses. I'm not really sold on the hot cam I can see some good points and maybe a waste of time and money considering you can install a stronger cam with the same effort. As said previously it's a daily driver and I'm not looking for a lot of power but for the money I do expect something other than a good sounding exhaust. I still want to consider the extras like rods, springs, etc. What got me interested was the local dealership claims if they do the install on GM performance parts I can still maintain warrenty. Not real sure about that one. I don't plan to jump into anything without feeling confident I'm making the right choice. Thanks again!!

That's interesting, cause when I asked they said there's no way I would be able to do that. Good luck with whatever you go with though. I will say from what I've heard that the Hot Cam loves the spray though.

Hot cams make decent power, but your going to kick yourself afterwards for not going larger. You know what they say... bigger is better good luck with your selection.

I agree. I went with the LT4 Hot Cam on my Vette. I regret doing that. Its just too small compared to other cams.

Don't worry about your warranty, sooner or later it runs out anyways
As far as keeping the warranty, the service manager at my dealership told me that as long as they couldn't "hear" the cam, they wouldn't care (ie: Z06 cam, baby cams)... But hey, bigger is better like Craig said.

SS Rally Red / BLKWS6 can do the install for you... By the way, mine has 80K on the clock and its a daily driver (kinda of, when it ain't broke)
