Question Anyone from Alabama?

I'm from Seattle and I am going to be in Birmingham for about 3 days in May for my neice's wedding and want to know what to do, where to eat, and what to see while I'm there. I love food and I love good scenery. I will have a car and I'm not afraid to drive a couple of hours if necessary. All recommendations are appreciated.

I'll be staying on Riverchase Parkway in Birmingham and her reception is on Saturday night in Cullman. The rest of the time I will be free.

You can ride with us up through a mountain top on May 17th.. We've got a huge group of people riding with us.. We ride through the mountains up to a river. We will stop and have something to eat off the grill. Should be pretty fun and also a cool road to ride on I bet.

PM me if your interested. Are you going to be in a good handling car?

There's an all GM show at Talladega that weekend. I'm thinking about taking my Chevelle to the show.

I will probably be in a Hertz Pontiac 4-door (they were all out of the convertibles).

So there really isn't much to do in Alabama in mid-May? No decent restaurants to eat in? If you only had 3 days to live and had to live them in Alabama, what would you do?

Find 280 right off of I459 and there are lots of good restaurants and shops etc. The summit (shopping center off 280/I459) has PF Changs its a really good chinese place and then theres Cheese Cake factory, cant remember what kinda food they have but Ive heard its really good. Theres all kinds of places off 280 and you'll only be a couple miles from there from Riverchase Pkwy

Oh yeah, you could always drive 4hr south to the beach. Gulf Shores/Orange Beach then head over to Mobile and go to the Battle ship. Heres some other things:

-Barbers Motorsports track/motorcyle museum (located in Leeds off I20)
-Talladega Track/Nascar museum (Located off I20 in Talladega)
-Desoto Caverns in Childersburg
-Since your heading towards Cullman theres Rickwood Caverns off I65
-Galleria (for the wifey or GF)

Those are just a couple things right off the top of my head.

Cheesecake Factory has a lot of good food. Plus when you're done you can choose between about 30 different kinds of cheescake. Their menu is 10+pages and takes a while to make a decision.

Dreamland is pretty good too if you like ribs and bar-b-cue. I still haven't found a good bar-b-cue place here in Bham, like were on every corner down in Phenix City though.

Oh if you like a really nice restaurant, check out Flemings at the summit on HWY 280.. They have the best steak i've ever had . All you have to do is go down I459 to the Mtn brook/Childersburg exit and take a right, then its your first right the for the next 2 turns. pretty easy to get there.

My sister lives near Mobile so I will have the opportunity to see the Gulf. Looking forward to that. The Pacific is too cold right now. BBQ is great (my step-dad was from Kansas City). I'm used to paying $60 for a good steak so a fancy restaurant sounds like dinner one night. I will be travling alone (can't afford a wife/girlfrind) so the scenic routes sound cool too. I haven't been out of Washington in about 15 years so I am looking forward to the trip and opportunity to see new places.

Good food & lots of it:
Birmingham - do Jim n' Nick's. Anything on the menu can't miss. Beef brisket w/tater salad & baked beans for me.
Gulf Shores - find Franco's. I did broiled scallops & something last time, but same deal here, anything on the menu's spot on.
Hot chick for ridin shotgun - don't know about hot, but if you have any game at all you'll find her in Cullman

3 days to live:
Go back home & rustle up some Tide tickets & bring it back down to Tuscaloosa for a Saturday game. Small flask for the bourbon

That's a good question: What's a fifth of good bourbon run down south?
