I can't say they are new because I think they were on the car when it was dyno'd. That is the only use on them though. Make me an offer, more than likely I will never use them. They will sit in there little plastic container as long as I keep them.

James 17 hours seems like to long of a cruise to me haha, and did anyone turn in their midnight cruise registration the deadline is approaching and space is limited so I hear. Just don't want to be the only one there.

Anyone familiar with Twisted Fusion Motorsports in Fort Mitchell, AL? Does that shop have a solid reputation? It's only 20 miles from my house, so I am thinking of using him for some work.

what kinda of work are you trying to have done, i'd call around and see what they typically do work on. i dont see to many old shop's like that doing work with to many lsx motors but i may be wrong..... if its something lsx based you've got OUTLAW, SPARTAN, AND VENGEANCE. Those are about the best shops i can think of......

I don't know much about the shop, but I think it's only been around since 2009 or so. I went and spoke to the owner/tech named Tom about switching my rear gears from 3.23 to 3.73 ratio. He seemed knowledgable and helpful enough. He has a pretty nice place, just past the rear gates of Fort Benning across from a Rainbow Foods grocery store iirc.
I believe he is mainly a mustang guy, but he made sure to point out that he will work on absolutely anything from imports to domestics. I did some searching online trying to find out more and it seems he was a technician at a Porsche/ Audi shop at some point. Not sure how long he has been in this area though. There were several nices rides there, GT500 mustangs, Supra, First Gen Mustang, some nice stuff.
He didn't give me an exact qoute on the work, but said most gear changes run from 400-500 with you providing the parts, that includes installing the master install kit (bearings, ect.) He could order the parts if you wish or bring him a list of which parts you are interested in. I am assuming this also includes a recalibration of the speedo ad tuning of the shift points since he a performance shop he should be able to do these things.

http://www.twistedfusionmotorsports.com/

I then called B&B Gears and Powertrain in downtown columbus, and they quoted me $350 to install the gears and bearings. The problem there is that they can not calibrate the speedo, he said i would have to take it to the dealership to do the recal (not sure what that would cost or they would even mess with gears that are not stock ratios).

Not sure exactly what I want to do at this point and now am considering buying new rims instead of the gear swap (limited budget, lol.)

yeah im not to sure but some one will correct me if im wrong, but if the guy recalibrate's your car it may require you to buy some sort of credits for the tuning software. B&B are pretty good people i had a pretty little drive shaft made through them, because the one i got from speed inc was to short... what kinda of car are you running and what kinda of mods do you have? when i had my first set of gears in my old 10-bolt, i sent my pcm off to have it tuned for me. but if your only mods are gears i wouldn't recommend it because its to expensive for just having that mod...

It's an 02 TA WS6 A4. From what I can tell the car is stock with a Flowmaster exhaust, it may just be the muffler, not sure. I bought the car from Jay, so it's not like I was able to talk to the previous owner about it.

I'm more of a geek than a gearhead so bear with me while I try to explain my logic.

I chose the gear change as a first mod because it seems like it may fix my initial gripe about this car. Say I was traveling 50mph or so, and decided to lay the pedal down to the floor. The rpm range sometimes is too low to give me that burst i need, it kind of slugs it's way up to speed. From a slow roll, if i pound it down I get that higher rpm drive and feel the power of the LS1. So, with a change of gear ratios, I would have higher rpms, more in the power range of the LS1. I guess this gripe I have is when the automatic is switching from 2nd to 3rd, it bogs down and I am not getting the drive I want from it.

In my mind, even if I did install some power adders, the gears would still be an issue-- so why not tackle it first? I am not made of money, so I have to chose wisely here, because it may be along time before I could have other work done.

lol well it sounds like your on the right track, but i think you may want to look at a stall converter. something usually around 3600. if you've seen greasemonkey's car run im sure you'll want to spend the money on that investment. usually my buddies with a4's usually do gears and stall around the same time so when the reset the speedo, they can tune the shift points... if some of the guys in here reply to this they can set you straight on my information about gears and stall converters than i can. my car is a standard so im not the best person to ask.

Ha, yeah thanks for the input! I'll be pondering this for a while I think, lol. I think I will go ahead and order a new lid now that I am thinking about it. it's only a hundred bucks and I can't go wrong with that decision-- take care

Yea I'd rather hit up a track event anyway mike. There are tons of cruises going on in the next couple of months I'm sure we will all be able to hit up atleast one.

get a stall! i promise you it will fix your problems....our A4's have a deadspot from about 30-60 mph.....which makes roll racing a PITA....however...the stall will almost completely eliminate that.....as soon as you mash the go fast pedal it will flash your rpm's to whatever you have the converter stalled to....i recommend the Yank SS 3600....thats what i got and i love it! you will not be disappointed.....by far a stall is the best performance mod you can do to an A4 car, period! trust me.

How do you like it for riding around town? Was it easy to adjust to? I have been reading threads for 2 months debating back and forth because there is no way for me to get both a stall and gears (I have a family to support!)

I wish I could ride with you one day just to see how it is, how it acts, and if it's something I could deal with in a daily driven street car. I have never been down a drag strip in my life and probably never will. Thanks for the advice

The biggest thing with a stall is getting on that is tight. My stall is a 3800 triple disk with anti ballooning plates. It is defiantly on the loose side, meaning I have to give it quite a bit of gas to get it moving. What gears do you have now? Going to a numerically higher number gear will weaken the rear gear set. I would recommend a tune first, most places offer a number of free updates. Gm is notorious for shitty tunes, especially auto trans tunes. What's your budget and plans for the car? If you do a stall keep in mind that you need to get cooler. The heat generated by the stall without one will kill the trans. You will also need a tune with a stall converter.
