I checked the rpo codes and my car has the 3.23 gears. As far as budget goes, I could probably come up with a thousand dollars total if the gains from a mod are really worth the money. A nice tune sounds like a great idea actually, from what I understand the factory tune is geared toward reaching the highest fuel efficiency rather than performance.
I enjoy my car for myself, I'm honestly not concerned with trying to impress anyone else-- just enjoying it for me. Hell, even if I had a 9 second car I would still be doing it solely for my own enjoyment.
I don't really have any set goals for this car, per say. Like anyone else here, if money were no object then I would never stop with the upgrades, it's just a matter of budget and value for the dollar. I would like to have more pep in that 30-60 mph range. It's like you know the power is there but you can't access it for whatever reason. If I were to go wot from a dead start, I can feel the power -- if I go wot from a 45 mph roll it just isn't there most times.
At the end of the day, this is my daily driver -- I am still paying for this car and have a warranty on it. It is in great shape and has lowish miles. I want to keep it in the best condition that I can for as long as I can. So maybe modding isn't for me right now because it may void my warranty.

Great thing with a tune is that those guys at jay wont know the car has one. The guy I had check the readings for the o2 sensors didn't know how to do it. I had to show him and let him what they were suppose to read. You could get a tune, gears, and a set of headers and your had mileage would stay the same. Gm seems to be excessively rich when it comes to their tunes. I think you will be happy with a tune.

if your concerned about driveability than a 3600 might be a little high for you....i don't mind DDing it but it can get annoying at times...mainly the loss in MPG from all the hills on post....and stop and go traffic....but i honestly could easily step up to a 4K stall and DD it.....for you a 3200 would probably be more what you are looking for.....you can get a stall and trans cooler for about $800-900.....not including installation.....but i think based on what you are looking for that would be your best choice....either that or swap to a M6....as far as a tune goes you can never go wrong with a tune....unless you know someone with HP tuners or something a mail order tune from Frost would probably be your best bet for the money....i think he does mail order tune for like $120 or something like that....it probably won't be spot on but it will help a lot....
if i were in your shoes i would get a stall w/ trans cooler and a mail order tune and call it a day......that is, if you really want to up the pep in your step....but keep in mind that with modding a car and "utilizing" those mods your are going to be more prone to breaking things....but thats with any car...even if you don't mod it, if you beat on it things will break...
but with all the mods in my sig i have only had a little AFR tuning done to it...i havent even messed with trans tuning at all and i'm still running bottom 12's....for what you're looking for i think the stall is your best option....i would take that $1,000...put it aside...save about $3-400 more and get a stall, cooler, and mail order tune.....and i think you would be quite satisfied....unless that modding bug hits you like it has the rest of us....in that case you better get a second job, lol....

I'm going home for that cruise, since mainly it's a HUGE deal back home. Plus if your serious about any racing that would be the place to do it, since theres big bucks to be made after the sun goes down. The big deal about back to the bricks is that it's one of the world's largest cruises, it is in the city where the Fbody got its start.

James, grab some pics and post if you don't mind. Try to find something with a man-a-fre intake and get some pics. The man-a-fre is an old intake manifold that had multiple carbs. It was the intake used on milners coupe in american grafitti. What you guys know about american grafitti?

Poor Ol' toad. That movie is coming out on blu ray in may if I remember correctly. There is another movie that is a pretty good car movie, but I can't remember the name. It had Brad Pitt, who kidnaps a cops daughter, he drove a yellow nova if my memory is correct. The cop was an old street racer who was suppose to be the fastest car around back in the day. Brad kidnaps the girl to get the guy to race. When they do brad loses and slams his car into a bull dozer. I remember before the race starts, Brad has a skull that he turns on and the eyes flash red, he sits it on the dash. Anybody know this movie? Don't forget the Wrath, with Charlie Sheen.

Yes, after looking into it I think a frost mailorder tune would do me a lot of good. Some threads I've read specifically stated adjustments in the tune that fixed some issues with deadspots in the autos. $150 for a Frost tune sounds good to me
