Cars not being a good investment? I guess like anything to have to time it right.
If you pay full price for a tuner car such as this then yes you will likely never make anything on it. Put your money in a cd.
But if you buy a car when they are at the bottom of their value like a TTA, 87-93 Saleen, 92 Firehawk, etc and are willing to wait for that generation to (in this case early genX) to have considerable disposable income then yes you will make money.

And I wasnt aware that SLP was responsible for the new ZL1, and honestly that dissapoints me. I worked at a dealer here in OK that sold a few of the SLP ZL575's and ZL550's. I had a customer of mine buy a ZL575 and fit it with a pair of SLP long tube headers. He then had a local shop tune it. SLP advertised 575bhp and then when dynoed AFTER headers and a tune it could only muster 473whp. Even if it was stock that a 100hp loss through the drivetrain which is absolutely REDICULOUS.
GM: Can we have a LS7 powered 5th gen yet? Give me a basic sound system, a LS7, a t56, and cloth seats. PLEASE.

Any investment is a gamble. You buy a car because you want it and if it happens to become collectible, that's great. When it comes to quality of investment many of us thought the stock mkt. was rock solid. Looking back if I had put my money in collectible cars early in 2008 I would be far better off financially than I am today. It's a matter of choosing your poison.

So let me get this straight, Slp is making 69 ZL1's in 11' and then chevy is going to make them anyway in 2012. Seems kinda dumb to buy the Slp version when you could just wait for the GM version and get the full factory backing on breaking stuff haha. I think they should have done the LS7 personally to stay with the heritage but whatever. Ive also heard of some kinda special handleing camaro coming out and it could possibly be the z28. On a side note I do like the new Motion camaros coming out by Denooyer.
