ZL1 After 42 Years The Legend is Back……and only from SLP!
Just wanted to get you guys input on this. I think they left out that GMMG produced 69 ZL1's in 2002. SLP is basically leaving out the fact that there were ZL1's produced in 2002.

Well my understanding is that GMMG was never able to use the name ZL-1 alone thus the reason why they had to go with ZL-1 Supercar. Seems GM has given SLP the rights to use the ZL-1 name plate.

Point being there were 69 ZL1s made in 2002 regardless who made it or what they called them. What gets me is SLP is saying there hasn't been a ZL1 made in 42 years. And the price 80k plus the price of the car. I could probably see it if SLP hadn't made the ZL already.

True I really never thought of it that way. But with that said I wonder what the value of the 2002 ZLs hold! And will the new Camaro have the ZL1 RPO code on the factory RPO sticker?

This is all wrong having it be a ZL1. The whole point of the original was fitting a 427 in a car that GM restricted due to engine size and vehicle weight. The L72 was such a good idea that they did an aluminum 427 and in order to be legal to race, they needed X amount of cars sold to the public. Of course all the COPO cars were special ordered and were very basic.
Please correct me if my facts are wrong but don't flame me please lol.

I dont think I like that car. Maybe its the drawing and it will look better in person but for some reason the carbon fiber accents just does not look good. I like the engine details though! Was ZL1 trade marked by GM? Or is SLP using a great marketing angle?

Actually GMMG would not have built the car without the consent of GM. GM set many of the parameters for the GMMG ZL-1. Scott Settlemire played a big part in getting GM's consent. Scot is on chirpthird.com all the time. Just post your questions there and get the facts.

Yea that's the point I'm trying to get accross to SLP. Their sales pitch of the ZL1 only being made one time and after 42 years is beyond me. Thanks grb.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, however if you are looking for a investment, forget about cars. But if you desire a hot rod that is fast and unique then buy the car you want and enjoy it, forget it being a "investment". Buying a muscle car is like trying to time the stock market, not happening for most mortals!. Most collectable cars do not reach their true value for a considerable amount of time past original purchase, by that time they have changed owners 2 or 3 times.
As far as the GMMG cars, the value of these cars has not really done anything except go down in recent years along with everything else and that has to do with alot of outside factors beyond our control. Everyone and there brother is coming out with high horsepower cars, my feeling is this is the second coming of the muscle car era, the newer cars are so much faster than the cars of the sixtys, however they do not posess any of the racing DNA or history of the past muscle cars so where is the value? It all comes down to who has the most horsepower in the end.
