WS6 Rims
I got a 96 WS6 and i want the OE Wheels. What are the numbers on the wheel im supposed to look for? I may have passed on a set last night, that might have been the right ones. So i want to get the right info to ask for.
If im not mistaken, 96 and 97 had the same rims, but were detailed/polished different. 98-02 had the same rims with different polish and anodized special editions.
1996 to very early 2001 all used the same style, with model year 2000 having an additional style offered (actually it was the standard wheel for that year, though it ended up being very rare) that is a 3-spoke "swirly" design. You are correct that there were several different finishes offered on these wheels over these years, including silver painted with a polished lip (1996), fully polished and clear coated (1997- very early 2001), and blue anodized (1999 30th Anniversary Edition only)
2001 (mid-late) thru 2002 used a different design (Speedline), except for the 2002 CETA which used the same wheels as above (same as your '96) other than being black painted with a polished lip.
All WS6 wheels 1996-2002 were 17x9", 50mm offset regardless of styling.
There were several different WS6 center caps offered for the different styles and designs of wheels between 1996-2002, all are interchangeable in terms of fitment except for the ones offered on Speedline and 3-spoke wheels (which are both specific to only those respective wheels).
Thanks alot for this info. Exactly what I needed.
GL finding a set of those...
Actually in negotiations for a 96 Formula WS6 hard top M6 car that has them... (praying)
17x9" silver with a polished lip was the standard wheel for 1996 WS6 cars (at least for the hardtop/T-top cars; I don't remember exactly what the convertibles received but I seem to recall them getting 16" wheels in '96). There were quite a bit more than 100 sets issued by GM, as there were quite a bit more than 100 WS6 cars built.
I am well aware that there were more than 100 WS6's built... for 1996 according to COMP9... The 96 WS6 Formula specifically there were only 100 sets of those wheels. This is not a number i just pulled out of my ***.. its documented.

This wheel wasn't specific to *only* Formula WS6, the same wheel was issued on Trans Am WS6 - therefore many more than 100 sets were originally produced. Folks (such as the OP) shopping for a used original set of '96 WS6 wheels don't need to specifically look for wheels off of a Formula.

There were no convertible WS6s built until the '97 MY, but you are correct that they received the 16" wheels and standard Formula/TA suspension. '98 was the first year that convertible WS6s received the same suspension and 17" wheels that the WS6 coupes came with.
