Default 1997 Ws6 - HARDTOP

Guys, would a 1997 Ws6 hardtop be a pretty rare bird? Is the consensus that hardtop f bodies are less desirable?

Just depends on the person. A hardtop really isn't any less desirable to me. My preference would be T-tops, then a hard top, then a distant third is a convertible, but I could be perfectly happy in a hardtop. My brother had a red 97 WS6, but I think it has T-tops. Great looking cars.

Of the 2889 WS6 T/A coupes built in '97, only 310 had the HT. Of the 482 WS6 Formula coupes built, 178 had the HT. Of the 8695 T/A coupes built (which includes WS6s and Comp-TAs), 849 had the HT. So relatively rare, yes. The HTs are much less prone to body twist than the T-tops, and lighter too.

Considering that T-tops became standard on T/A coupes in '98, a HT T/A is a rare bird. As far as "desirability", that depends on the buyer.

a hardtop is more desirable to me , i hate how t tops look . I specifically looked for a hardtop 6 speed formula when i bought my car . If i knew what i know now i would have bought a 99-02 trans am , f the 98's lol and replaced the top with a carbon or fiberglass one from 6le when they were around .

sweet trans am

I like both, but the 4th gen roof line is perfectly suited for t-tops and that's my preference for a driver type example. All four of mine have had t-tops but I rarely use them on my '98 in an effort to keep the interior spotless (show car) so, as such, it would be fine with me if this car was a hardtop. On the other hand, I used to use them ALL the time when I still had my '02 Z28 as a 3-season daily driver - great fun.

IMO, "Rare" get tossed around a lot these days. Like most question: How many are still on the road after 25 years?

I just acquired a Black 1997 TA WS6, Hardtop, 6spd, Cloth Interior. Breaking down the RPO Codes with how the car was optioned, it's: 1 of 86.

Hardtops have the cleanest lines on F-Body cars and even more so with the WS6 package.

Convertibles do NOT leak if properly maintained and garage kept. We hit some deluges on our Rte 66 trip last year and not a drop inside.

Following up with the car I acquired. This was when it was delivered about 3 weeks ago. It's at our shop getting some issues addressed before being inspected. Dealing with a P0400 EGR related CEL. The "newly replaced" clutch to my best assessment did not get the slave replaced and needs to be dealt with. Needs a new headliner as well. However, these were points that lowered the price of car in my favor. Cosmetic wise, the paint just needs a good paint correction. Came with a car cover, new door speakers, plug wires, new tires. Car is lowered, Borla cat-back and strut tower brace. Car has just under 65k miles.
