How many extra hp does a Firehawk have over the WS6?
#21
The last couple of posts were right on the money IMO. Hawks are bout collectability more than raw performance. However, there is around 5K in extra options that add to the hawk's mistique, and the performance options are the difference in night and day. To know a true difference, you must drive both. The ride is totally different. And when you talk performance, put two equally experienced drivers on a road course, one ws6 and ond hawk (or ss), and the latter will be the victor of the race with ease. Again the Hawk is more uniqueness than performance.

A buddy and I went to Evansville last Mon and saw a 99 Firehawk and a 01 WS6 on the same lot side by side. When my buddy asked about them the salesman replied "I believe the Firehawk has a different engine or something" I had to inform him about the LS1 differences from manifolds to the LS1 intake and LS6 intake, injectors, egr to intake or lack there of, etc, etc. He was impressed and said I was the first person that sounded like I actually knew what was going on. It just goes to show you that crap gets started and things can get really out of wack on the differences of cars. I believe that if you took an "equal" WS6 and Firehawk, meaning they both with were not freaks, the addition of the lid and exhaust would be the difference. But you have to figure in the Freaks that are out there, so just because you race a WS6 with an equal driver with your Firehawk doesn't mean you'll win everytime. The different #'s LS1's are putting out are too far apart to guarantee an advantage with a SS or Firehawk eveytime. But, I do beleive the lid and exhaust adds 10-15 hp over the otherwise factory lid and exhaust. Not picking on Firehawk or SS owners, that's just my .02.

Yeah, the Firehawk and WS6 were both right around 21,000 or so. They are being sold on consignment at Morgan Auto, next to Buds Harley Davidson. They both were in the 40,000 mile range. The guy said he would go 19,900 on the Hawk, my buddy is really looking for an SS. I thought that was too high for a 99. Give em a call, here's the # and name of the guy we talked to, he probably knows a little more about LS1s since we last talked LOL. Terry Brothers (812)962-1250 Oh yeah, Firehawk has Borla exhaust and is red. WS6 is pewter, and has a BG ram air kit on it. Don't know about the exhaust. Both 6 speeds, hope this helps.

BriancWS6, thanks! I'm not in the market for another 'Hawk but like to know that I got a great deal on mine...
Before I bought my 'Hawk, a local dealer had a 2002 WS6 with 19K for $23,000. I thought that was pretty high but I guess car dealers need to make as much $$$ as they can...

I never dynoed my 345 HP package SS, but I don't think it makes a huge difference.
I think what they may be trying to get at on the other site is that there are huge differences in the LS1s that come from the factory, commonly known as factory freaks. There have been cases documented where people dyno their stock WS6/TA/Formy/Z28/SS against a 345 HP package Hawk or SS and out dyno them. Why? Who the hell knows...engine tolerances perhaps?

345 SLP Cars always beat WS6s, right Steve?

Probably Pointless, But...
If anyone really cares to educate themselves on why a Firehawk is what it is, just take a look at this SLP suspension chart. Optioned with the Bilstein suspension, a Firehawk is far superior to any other stock F-Body in that very important category.
SLP never CLAIMED that a Firehawk was faster than any other car. They correctly claimed the car came with 345HP vs. less for any other F-Body.
Someone show me where SLP EVER claimed that a Firehawk was "faster"???
Faster than a WS6? Not really. Better car overall? U Betcherass.
There's plenty of M6 F-Bodies out there faster than me. Do I care? Not at all.
I own a vehicle that was never mass produced. Total production for Firehawk was only 10,000 for ten years. WS6 and SS production numbered over 12,000 a year for several years, so that ends that arguement.

You know, the hawk was a performance vehicle made to SLP specifications to be a greater vehicle. They made no Sales Gimmicks. If they did, they would not have limited the production #s. Will they kill a WS6 in the 1/4, no. Are they built for better performance, yes. Very good post Dawg. Don't hate the Hawk because it cost more or has more options...afterall, it is another F-body. Saying the Hawk has no more performance than the WS6 is no different than saying the WS6 has no more performance than the TA/Formula/Z28. There are quite a few differences. Plus, for the enthusiest, it is going to be more collectable in the future.
