Question Got a Firehawk! Couple of quesitons

Just got a 99 T/A Firehawk.

Pic can been seen here:
http://members.rogers.com/mark97z/IMG_0622.JPG

It has all of the SLP options including the Bilstein suspension and the Auburn rear end.

Couple of questions:
1. What exactly does the bilstein suspension include? I know it includes springs and shocks, but does it include LCA and panhard bushings? From the owners manual supplement it looks like it does.
2. Is there anything I should watch out for with the Auburn rear end? I think the manual says to change the fluid every 15k miles which is more often than I remember?

Thanks!

Mark

Default Welcome to the addiction

Beautiful car. The advice about firehawk.org is good. You need to register your Hawk in the database. I have had my 02 Firehawk for just over a month.
Not sure on the Bilstein question, but the Auburn I can answer. After I bought mine, I noticed a popping noise when I turned. The dealer I bought it from recommended synthetic lube. WRONG! After a search I found out that Auburns take 2 qts of 80/90 wt non synthetic lube and up to 4 oz of GM limited slip additive #1052358(around $8.00 at a dealer) Also make sure that you use Suzuki gasket maker (I forget the part number) instead of a gasket to allow the cover tofunction as a cooler. When I had a local shop change the fluid, they found that in 56K miles the cover had never been off. It still had a gasket. There were 3 small filings on the magnet and luckily the gears looked like new. The fluid was badly burned and thin. New lube, no more noise. From now on every 15K I will glad have this done.
Be careful and best of luck. LS1tech is a great board.

Thanks!

I have to remember to call SLP one of these days to find the build number and then I will register for the owners database on firehawk.org.

Thanks for the info on the Auburn - definitely something I will have to do in the spring (car goes to sleep for the winter soon). Do you know if GM sells the gasket maker?

You're probably thinking of the difference between a Trans Am Firehawk and a Formula Firehawk...

All Firehawks have a normal looking Trans Am or Formula front bumper..the only thing changed on it is up in the center by where the hood meets the bumper between the headlights, the rest is the same as any other TA or Formula. The only reason the bumper is changer there is to accomidate the Firehawk hood.

Other than the markings on the car theres very little visual differences in the Hawk's vs. Formula's and Trans-AMs. Except in 2002 (2001 Anniv cars got it too.) when they got the different spoiler and LED brake light.

And of course the hood.

Mark97Z, here is the part # of the gasket material.

For the cover seal don't use the paper gasket only use Three Bond Silicone Gasket #1216. Manufactured under license to Suzuki - Part #99104-31160 $20, this is to make the cover heat sink to the rearend which cools down the gear lub.

Good luck.

I do too, my car actually stands out in a sea of F-bodies.
