The one aspect people seem to forget is that this car, although sold with the intention of being run back in the 60's has changed faces. No she's not the most appealing car with a bland color and a lack of outward cosmetics that set it aside from your run-of-the mill first gen. People who look to purchase a vehicle such as this are intending to keep it garaged and away from danger.
I know many current LS1 owners would not agree with such an intention today, as the cars have such potential no one would ever dare keep it garaged and unused. However, many are also forgetting the age of these cars. This car rolled off the line over 30 years ago and could run any production, or limited production car for that matter for many years to follow. Those arguing that they could destroy it in speed, or power don't realize that these cars were stock and could run with most any cars today. That's 30 years of advanced technology. Try taking any limited production car today into the future 30 years and see if the same holds true.
They were the quickest chevy's of their time, and held the throne for many years to come. Collectors buy these cars for the intention of perserving a piece of history in their name, not to take them out. (Could you imagine trying to insure one of these cars, much less what you would do to some kid that dinged it in the parking lot?) They are truly the last of a breed, those who remember car history know what the 70's did to the muscle car. Large cubes, big hp, and never touched by a computer or emissions system in their life, the ZL1 came off the line as being a collectors item, not a daily driver (Why would you build 69 in 1969 for any other reason).

Don't forget the ZL1 came along just a year or so (1971) that emissions crap absolutely ruined high HP cars. There is also the question of how many original ZL1s can be accounted for. I'll ask that question on the Yenko/Super Car forum if nobody knows.
Also, the people who buy these cars usually don't have to worry about taking a relatively large sum of money and turning it into a non-producing (possibly losing) asset. Keeping these cars up and insurance aren't free. Hell, the insurance on my 02 ZL1 is ridiculous.
