I agree, but those numbers are underrated. I forgot the exact specs of the cam, but when you add cnc heads, cam, pulley, headers and catbck, lid, tuning, you're going to have 420 at the wheels for sure. I don't know why they put that number(435). Still how can anyone say 435 even at the crank isn't impressive? A stock z06 is enough to satisfy most people and it's enough to mortify an old lady.

Remember these cars had to meet Safety and Emmission requirements, and were offered with a limited warrantee.
Can you make more power...sure. Can you build it cheaper...absolutely. But if had an opportunity to drive or own one of these monsters, it would earn your respect. They are a pieice of late model muscle art.
Remember a modified LS1 can blow a L78 or even an L72 1st gen in the weeds.....but who wouldn't give their left nut for one.

My SLP 345HP car dynoed at 327.8 at the wheels and considering 16% drivetrain loss(M6) that makes it 380HP at the crank, the same the Phase I Bergers are rated at. I haven't seen a dyno sheet recently of a 380 or 435 car to see what they put to the wheels. There is now a Phase IIx that has revised heads and cam and is rated at 475 at the crank.

Not impressive? Matt put me in a phase II one cool evening several years ago and the thing was a power house. In fact, a buddy of mine who was with me that night has a cammed, headers, head work and several other mods to his 02 Z06 and he wouldn't even drive it!!

The LS1 powered "Berger SS" Camaros began with 380 HP and 6-speed tranns. They were all sold thru Berger Chevrolet in Grand Rapids, MI. Then, if the owner wanted to and had the $$, the car was sent back to GMMG in Marietta, GA for more HP up grades. It was then up to the owner to select what mods he/she wanted. This is where Phase 2 and 3 come in.
Just thought I would clear the air a little on this subject.......................

Regular Bergers did not get the Phase III 427 motor. ZL1, Hot Rod and Dick Harrell cars were the only ones that could be had with the optional 427. The last of the Berger SS had been made by the time the 427 ZL1's were conceived. Hot Rods were being built at the same time as the first ZL1's so there are a couple with the 427 in them.
